Paul Dini and Bruce Timm produced the DC Animated Universe series of cartoons. They were FANTASTIC cartoons! I can't seem to pick a favorite, they're so good. This comic was made as a special because there was already a comic based on the animated series. It was called "The Batman Adventures". There are some duds in that series, but mostly, it was kind of okay. Then this comic came out and it made headwaves. It was given awards, John Goodman of all people loved it, Frank Miller called...

This was a wonderful series. Chris Claremont wanted to work on an X-Men book with Frank Miller...because he was the new superstar artist at the time. Frank rejected it...but then they hashed out this storyline about Wolverine in Japan. This was so good, it was adapted into a film called "The Wolverine". Produced by Marvel Productions, Sunbow Productions and Continuity Comics, this series was badass! I love how the singer in the theme song sounds like a mix of Chris Rock and Chris Tucker. The voices are top notch, though Jenny sounds a little too much like Sally Acorn. Yes, I know this came out before SatAM, but...yes... A writer who wrote Batman in the 90s was Doug Moench. He created the Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham miniseries...yeesh. Neal Adams (R.I.P.) was also one of the writers and...

Once again published by Continuity Comics, this new series was meant to be an expansion on the original graphic novel. It was supposed to be 6 issues, but it was canned. Larry Hama also wrote a second storyline, but it was canned...again. There is a British version of the series that lasted 26 issues, but I can't find it anywhere. In the 1970s, Michael Golden and Larry Hama created Bucky O' Hare. They didn't get to do anything with it until Neal Adams gave them a job at his comic studio "Continuity Comics". This is the same Neal Adams who revolutionized comics in the 1970s with his runs on Deadman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow and Batman. May he rest in peace... It was published in the 1980s and it was kickass. Written by Larry Hama Art by Michael Golden Colors by Cory Adams

I have never, NEVER seen a comic book adaptation so direct in my life that worked so well...then I watched The Maxx. This is the best comic adaptation of all time. The episodes of The Maxx ARE the comic translated from panel to screen so well. Mashing many artstyles with CGI and ACTUAL COMIC ART AT THE SAME TIME! THAT'S CRAZY! I guess this was part of the second wave of the Image Invasion...or whatever it was called back then. Sam Keith was well known for stuff like weirdly drawn and experimental shit. Like Wolverine and Batman...odd... Well, since he wasn't really confident in his writing, the script was done by a writer by the name of William Mesner-Loebs. This comic is brilliant...for about 13 issues. Steve Oliff is a colorist who worked on the English adaptation of Akira...and Spawn. Plot/Art - Sam Keith Script -...

Spawn was kicking all sorts of ass, so was Batman! WHY NOT CROSS OVER?! And so, DC Comics got together with Image Comics and created two crossovers! One was Batman/Spawn: War Devil by all of Batman's 3 writers at the time...and Klaus Janson...it was piss poor. It was boring, it was mostly talking heads (not the band), there wasn't as much action as the BIG one I'm going to talk about. Spawn/Batman is the big one. It was hyped up to high hell! It's crazy, Roger Stern might be the one holding Spidey in the 80s together, but he wasn't the only writer in this collection. There was, again, Marv Wolfman and Dennis O'Neil. Except there was also Bill Mantlo, a writer who, sadly, can't write anymore. Poor guy... There are certain characters in this series that will be important when we start highlighting Roger Stern's run on Amazing Spider-Man. Some of the art is really poor though... The best artists on this run are John Byrne, John Romita...

It's almost crazy to realize that X-Men wasn't as popular as Spider-Man at the time, but it did get canned...then it was brought back by one man. ONE PERSON...Len Wein. I'm not going to archive Giant X-Men #1, because it still feels like we're in the 1970s. But then Chris Claremont came in. That's what earns these issues the right to be archived in this scintillating series of the greatest comic books. DC Comics made this documentary about what happened in that seminal moment. It really opened my eyes on how 4 comics could (and should) get made and have them be about the same ongoing story. Did you know that the story of the death of Superman was originally just a joke? I certainly didn't until I did the ultimate comics binge of 2020...thanks, Covid. So this is how it all happened, when it happened, and after it happened.

Fuck Joe Quesada. He's a bitch. I'll pimp smack the shit outta him for forcing JMS to unmarry Peter and MJ JMS did One More Day specifically, so he'd retcon Sins Past from history...and Marvel didn't even let him do that. It shows something when Marvel forces an undoing of a marriage many people grew up reading...but doesn't undo one of the worst Spidey stories where the Green Goblin raw-dogs Gwen Stacy. JMS on Spider-Man was right up there with Roger Stern, Todd McFarlane, Gerry Conway and...

This'll be the last time we'll see Peter David and Roberto Aguirre Sacasa work on this era of Spider-Man. Aunt May has been shot by one of the Kingpin's hired goons. Causing Peter to break the rules and become...sorta like Batman, honestly. He becomes irresponsible. Therefore, JMS decided to give Spidey the black costume. This story was absolutely fantastic. I love where this story twists and turns...except for one case. The VENOM symbiote gave Eddie Brock...CANCER??? Something I'll never...

See, Peter David and JMS are good writers, so they could get around the awful, AWFUL storytelling in Civil War's mainline (and Fronline) story...lines. As for Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa...I dunno, really. I just found his work to be okay-ish. Paul Jenkins also wrote the (just as) awful "Batman: The Dark Knight" comic for the New 52 line of DC comics. Which had a redesign in the MCU series of films. Honestly, I prefer it here than in there. It's basically a badass Spider-Man suit with Iron Man's color scheme. While not written by J. Michael Straczynski, it is connected to his stories in an exponential fashion. This takes place before the road to Civil War storyline by JMS. Civil War was being built up in a crazy ass way, written by Mark Millar. Before we even get to that, I have to tell you about this new Sensational Spider-Man book. This is actually a renaming of Marvel Knights: Spider-Man. I dunno why there had to be a Marvel Knights Spider-Man comic, but it happened. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is the...

There was experienced comic writer Peter David and...less experienced comic writer Reginald Hudlin! In fact, Peter David took on the writing for a brand-new Spidey comic! It was called...

While not written by J. Michael Straczynski, it is connected to his stories in some way. In fact, after this, JMS starts writing the plot for a sprawling 12 issue story taking place in all the Spider-Man books. Mark Millar is a creator who will come back in our quest to archive all of JMS Spider-Man in a big way. He started out writing stuff like 2000AD and even Sonic the FUCKING Comic. He's like Garth Ennis, in that he always wrote cynical takes on superheroes...which I'm not a fan of....

Okay, let's run it back for a little bit. The art might still be bad (not my cup of tea), but the stories themselves are absolutely fantastic again. There's even a new logo for the 2000s. I find it rather ironic that the 90s logo was being used for Sins Past. Cause it was used in the Clone Saga and Chapter One. Although I did like Chapter One, nobody else did. Also, the less said about the CLONE SAGA, the better. Next up is another controversial Spidey story, but one I find really, REALLY good....

Right after Chapter One was released, John Byrne was tapped to write and draw for the new Amazing Spider-Man relaunch of 1999. Now any sane person would've asked this. Why in GOD'S name would Spidey get a relaunch? Well it's simple! The Clone Saga fucked everything up for Spidey-fans and the creative team ON the books. I guess the other books were canned. In 1993, Stan Lee and John Byrne developed an idea for a futuristic Spider-Man. Specifically due to Spider-Man's 30th anniversary coming up. That expanded to an entire universal future, originally called "Marvel 2093", but then became "Marvel 2099". The 2099 universe was focused on a cyberpunk dystopian future run by evil corporations...almost hits too close to home. Spider-Man 2099 was created by Peter David, Stan Lee and artist Rick Leonardi. Neo Tokyo was an Anthology Film created by Madhouse in 1987. It consisted of three short films. Including Construction Cancellation Order, the animated film debut of Katsuhiro Otomo. One of the shorts featured was "The Running Man". It slowly started the anime boom of the United States. The artstyle was strangly realistic in an age of stylized character designs and landscapes. The amount of detail on this short was staggering. When Streamline Pictures originally dubbed it, the...

You know how this goes. Except you don't cause THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM ANY MEGA MANGA YOU'VE READ! It's different from the Archie comics even. Mega Man is a kid named "Rocky" and has a love interest named "Chelsea"? And they go to school together? Why?! Not that I'm complaining or anything, that's a good premise! This whole thing is actually pretty good. Especially at the end. But............it's not my type of Mega Man. Written by Brian Augustyn Cover art by Mic Fong...

This movie creeps me the fuck out. It was supposed to be a reboot of the original Kamen Rider series with more serious and darker themes. Some of the music, although fucking fantastic in its own right, doesn't fit the tone of the movie what-so-fucking-ever. Plot Summary:   Shin Kazamatsuri wakes up from a bad dream, but realizes that the nightmares he has experienced are real when he transforms into a grasshopper-like humanoid. Not only must he find out what happened to him, he is also on the...

This movie takes place after the NES trilogy. It was animated by Studio Junio, the people behind Dragon Ball, DBZ, and Sonic CD's animation. This was a script for a reboot of the Batman movies. It was going to be directed by Darren Aronofsky while Frank Miller was set to write. The reason why FRANK is doing it is cause he wrote the original version of Batman: Year One. It was a good book...THIS SCRIPT SUCKS DICK! Though, funnily enough, Mr. Aronofsky asked Christian Bale to be Batman. The reason why that's fucking hilarious is cause he later played Batman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy. I don't know WHERE this color version came from, but this was a short that merged animation with reality. Some of the best animators were in this short on-camera, and even producer Leon Schlesinger was in it. Mel Blanc had to dub all the voice lines because the animation studio didn't have on-location sound equipment in the 40s. The only person Mel didn't dub over was Leon Schlesinger. Leon did his lines himself. This was actually a real life parallel to Friz Freling returning to the Warners...
