"Harsh tale of an alienated criminal's attempt to impersonate his psychiatrist-double. Important fatalistic noir, with classy visuals and a very fine script that features a creative doppelganger theme." - noir expert Spencer Selby
Also titled "Hollow Triumph". Cast: Paul Henreid, Joan Bennett, Eduard Franz, Leslie Brooks, John Qualen. 82 min.

Left or Right - It Doesn't Matter
The subtitle for this film could be "Nobody will notice." We all know that the scar, which he puts on his cheek to mimic someone's identity, will be his undoing, but is it because he puts in on the wrong cheek? In the end, it really doesn't matter because the people who matter never noticed.
Very good noir-ish film, including a femme fatale, albeit unwitting, lacking only the atmospherics typical of the genre.
Good performance from Paul Henreid; fortunate for him that his character got to impersonate someone with the same accent!

Multiple copies on IA is a good thing
...because they are usually encoded in different formats at different resolutions (and different file sizes), and are sometimes made from different prints that may be in better condition than other copies here at IA. Visitors are the winners when someone goes to the trouble to upload a different copy, because we can then choose the one that's just right for each of us. I always appreciate having that choice.

A fine film
Loaded with irony, 'The Scar' is an entertaining and well-made film noir character study of a narcissist, played by Paul Henreid.
With gangsters looking to murder him, he takes advantage of his uncanny resemblance to a practicing psychologist by replacing him and thus hiding in plain sight. In the days before photo IDs, computerized databases, and the internet, there were easier ways to assume a new identity, but the challenge appealed to this man.
But bad guys always lose, and he does, in the greatest irony at the end of the film.
I downloaded the 419MB MPEG-4 file. Video and audio are OK, though it needs deinterlacing.
