TRIPLE DOSE was one of the earliest collaborations between San Francisco multi-instrumentalist/poet Ernesto Diaz-Infante and âodd-istâ Rotcod Zzaj (aka Dick Metcalf). It got rave reviews from SPLENDID E-zine, & started a long trek of collabs between these two. If you'd like to look at some of our other musical efforts, please visit our magazine, at

Mr. Diaz-Infante and the enigmatic Rotcod Zzaj register another spike on the experimental music Richter scale with their latest offering, Triple Dose. These 16 tracks offer a variety of electronic arrangements which exemplify some impressive improvisational skills. While the majority of tracks here are certainly discordant and frenetic, this Bay Area duo throws you for a loop when you least expect it -- for instance, as they funk things up on "Shades of Blue" with old-school drum machine beats, low-key verbal rumblings and interweaving keyboards. Likewise, "Enclosed Circles" proves to be one of the more mesmerizing pieces, as the sound waves calmly disseminate from the inner workings of your stereo, bathing you in a relaxing yet slightly intimidating aura. Unlike many experimental outings, Triple Dose will make sense, as the piano poundings, poetic passages and miscellaneous manipulations are all logical processes, not blazing sheets of sound intended more to bowl you over then to make an impression on the brain. The thick mesh of experimental pieces here provides a listening experience that's dense with rich orchestrations, thought-provoking words and sounds, while remaining wholesomely cerebral.
