Pianist Freddie Redd visits the KJAZ studio with his bassist Hal Bigler during a Bay Area visit on 6/21/1990. Freddie Redd was best known for his collaborations with Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, Art Blakey, Art Farmer, Gene Ammons and Charles Mingus in the 1950s. This show aired on The Piano Players show, hosted by Stan Dunn, on KJAZ 92.7 FM in Alameda, the Bay Area's original jazz station. The photo is of Jerry Dean, Stan Dunn, Freddie Redd, Tim Hodges & Les Williams at the KJAZ studio, probably taken during this visit. Thanks to Mark Rabin for another fine recording. Freddie Redd passed away this week on St. Patrick's Day, at the age of 92.
