Famously great '86 shows are few to be found at this point - 2/11, 12/15...and this one. It deserves the accolades.
Set 1 - West
L.-freaking-A. Fadeaway, baby! Listen to Brent lay it down on this one - maybe one of the most heady versions I think I can remember. Let it Grow concludes what is a really strong set in a total blaze - man, listening to this makes me really curious what individual gems exist within '86...
Set 2 - Healy and Bobby get crazzzzzzy on Estimated - I really do get giddy at those acid-echo effects with that tune around this era....Eyes comes initially very close to flying off the rails, but they reconstitute it nicely - just listen, again, to Brent on the outtro jam!
D > S finds Mickey laying down a beautiful 'world' groove, and Jerry taking almost a solo approach to Space, which is achingly poignant, evocative, crows-gathering-and-flying-across-the-sky American. Or something like that.
Post-Space isn't terribly exciting, but they do maintain a solid tone through to the end of the show. It has a full energy, a rare confidence. Crazy to think Jerry was coma-bound given the sheer fire of his fretwork here. Frost '86, yeah, check it out -
