Jon Hendricks and Company from Lush Life in New York City on New Year's Eve, 1982. Lush Life was the first of four locations for the NPR Jazz Alive New Year's Eve broadcast. Hosted by Ben Sidran and Susan Stamberg. Broadcast on NPR national radio, recorded from WBEZ FM in Chicago.
Thanks to Mark Rabin for sharing this from his collection. Hendricks was best known for his time with Lambert, Hendricks and Ross in the late 50s to early 60s. He was one of the one of the originators of vocalese, which adds lyrics to existing instrumental songs and replaces many instruments with vocalists. He passed away in 2017 at age 96.

Awesome broadcast. Good vocalizations and scat singing from one of the greats - Jon Hendricks (1921-2017). Joined in the end by guests Janis Siegel and Tim Hauser from the Manhattan Transfer. 1982 New Year's recording ends with 33 minutes of remembering 3 jazz legends who left us that year: Art Pepper, Thelonius Monk, and Sonny Stitts.
