Noir at its finest
I'm a sucker for a good film noir tale and this is pretty durn good. Dragged a bit in places admittedly but on the whole is a fine addition to your collection or just to watch. Cloris Leachmans first role as a bonus.

Overrated, apparently, but professionally done.
This film was highly influential (and controversial) for some reason. I found it to be comparatively dull, with lots of violence, a couple of fancy sports cars and a dollop of sex, a kind of 007 precursor. Meeker plays a stiff with a nodding appreciation of high culture, who competes with assorted lowlifes and the cops to secure a creepily explosive government project hidden in a suitcase. A smoothly crafted movie nonetheless, for which I give it a grudging four stars.
