Having previously churned up our oldskool .MOD treats into a swirly mix for us with his 'Mono BPM' set, and also 'possibly' behind some naughty bootleg Monotonik compilations floating around file-sharing servers worldwide, US-based Luminfire sent us this languidly individualistic original composition. It made us go 'oo'. So we released it. Neat. But more with the specifics, guv'nor? Well, "Bananadittydub" is a vibraphone-encrusted gem of a track which strangely recalls DJ Shadow in...

And the band played on. With the band, in this case, being made up of the rather smart Finnish-type Vae, formerly known as Strala, and boss of the smart Net.label Kahvi (recently resurrected from purgatory, and looking all the better for it!) In any case, "Harry Slazenger" (no relation to Jake, Vae assures us..) is an initially distant, suddenly pendulum-like swing through sweetly toned electronic pop music - like Kraftwerk without the Teutonic bent, or a massively slowed-down...

A debut of distinction, this, as a brand-new artist from the UK, Aereal, kindly grabs our attention with this emotional "Connect"-ion that truly shines. Reminiscent of the rangiest early 90s material from dark canines and their ilk, "Connect" blends the background industrial clank to the lushest of strings and percussive clicks to make, honestly, one of the dreamiest tracks we've put out in ages. And if Aereal isn't significantly more well-known, significantly quickly, we'll...

The Commodore 64 is still one of the most amazing-sounding pieces of musical kit of the past 20 years. And, fresh from his acclaimed "Papaya EP" 7" on Bleep Street Records, which mixes up vocoders with divine SID riddims, Swedish wiz Goto80 shows us why the pure sound of the C64 is still king. "Monkeywarning", his debut release for Monotonik, is an 11 minute megamix of idm.tracks _purely_ composed on the Commodore 64 (no wimpy SIDStation action here), with only mixing...

More vital links back to the oldskool Mono connection, with this remix. The original track (as yet unreleased?) was done by Maleek, aka Starmode, a Dutch citizen of Moroccan descent who's affiliated with the infamous+obscure Mortimer Twang + Disciples of Ageema organisation. But the remix was performed by Zyad, a Finnish musician who's released stuff on Mono since way back in the .MOD days - this is actually his first release on Monotonik since 1998 (or is it? heehee.) Anyhow, "TBTD...

Monotonik rounds out 2007 with a bit of a gem - a free digital release of the super-rare Pliant mini-CD 'Musical Endeavor', the quirky video-game inspired electronica blast originally released on New York-based label Systorm Technologies back in 2000. What do you need to know about this? Well, the super-perky 9 track, 18 minute release is chronicling a fictional video game of some kind, and from the dynamic, spider-bass infused 'Title', it's clear that you're being taken through the game in...

So, a long-awaited Monotonik solo debut from New Zealand's Michael Upton, aka Jet Jaguar, with the beautifully minimal, almost dub-infused electronica of his 'Biddy Bids' EP. Having previously released physical CDs on Involve Records and Capital Recordings, as well as being one half of recent Monotonik releasers Malty Media - alongside Aquaboogie - Upton seems to revel in oddly clipped, funky stylings. For example, lead track 'Red' is all echo-drums and spotty, static-flecked skank, while...

Mmm. For Linus' first release as a member of mono211, he breaks out the originality potion for a tribute to most excellent film director and composer, John Carpenter. Famous in the 70s for pictures such as "Escape From New York", "The Thing", and "Assault on Precinct 13", many people think Carpenter was one of the fathers of modern electronic music, with his sparse electronic scores for his movies. And Linus has crafted a rather crafty tribute to the man. Nope,...

A return for Ramone, and it's just as blunted as usual. Mm, in our opinions, rather wonderful - but then, what do we know, huh? :) Perhaps original because it's not afraid to be a bit more downtempo than your conventional hiphop-jungle-hybrid. Then again, it could be the schmokes that make us choke. We'll just slope off then :)

Mm, here's another of Zyad's prized remixes of Vim!, and another piece of smart witty techno. It has a clock-ticking monotone to it that really begins to appeal after a while, don't you think? Then there's some sorta jazz drumming comes in a little later, and it's all agreeably offbeat. In a sorta onside way. Thanks to both of the lads - they done great.

As a taster for the one-off and assuredly rather special forthcoming album, Monotonik is proud to present the final recordings of UK artist Binary. Formerly signed to Planet Noisebox, and receptor of rave reviews in the NME for the 'awkward gracefulness' of the 'Music Of Sound' 10" and 'Brick Wall Music' album, Binary has now decided to leave the music industry altogether. his final album, 'Binatone', will be released through Monotonik, so everyone can enjoy his pithy blend of...

And the Monotonik experience couldnt be complete without a new release from the English madprofessor, and, we contend, one of the true individuals behind Monotoniks quality, Vim!. Fit At The Front reminds us a tiny bit of the AFX remix of Baby Fords Normal in the way it keeps the braindance going, but ducks and dives, spins and parries, in that uniquely screwed Vim!-style way. The melodies are weird as hell, the drums are boom bap boom in unexpected flurries, and it all adds up to a damn good...

A new EP from a brand new artist, Icelandic bringer of non-tranquility Vektrex, and whilst "Jacket From Planet Pluto" is an eloquent electro-ish track with a sneaky 'masters-of-triphop' sample and urgent, clicking percussion, the crazed beeps of "Perfect Pitch" bring to mind a NES game gone horribly, horribly wrong. Timestretching chip-chords and pitchbending sinewaves? Yikes, call the Game Genie right now!

After numerous plaudits for the first EP Monotonik released from US-based Grandma , including 'Net-Audio Release of the Month' in cult German paper-magazine De:Bug , we were keen to press on and put out some more material from the 15-year-old prodigy, who we think is one of the most amazing artists we've ever released on Mono. This time, we've got a 4-tracker showcasing more of his diverse and eccentric talent, put together with just an old PC and rickety microphone, as before, but radiating...

We're proud to feature the debut release from Kaamos, the new artist name for the Finnish musician formerly known as Phonex. Under that moniker, he released some beautiful tracks on a split 10" with Sense for Lee Metamatics' Neo-Ouija Records, plus appearances on classy compilations for Merck, Suojain, and Neo-Ouija. However, he's been away for a while, revitalising and recuperating, and "Agony" is a gorgeous return to form for his new moniker, showcasing scatterbeat drums,...

When Jansky Noise lobbed us this tiny, but perfectly distortedexclusive mp3 to help promote the forthcoming Planet Mu releaseof Speedranch + Jansky Noise 's 'Migrate' album, we were delightedto help unleash it on the unsuspecting public. Hence.. here it is. A little background: Speedranch is the veteran noisemaster who recently collaborated with Venetian Snares on a Planet Mu album, and with James Plotkin and others for the Phantomsmasher releaseon Mike 'Faith No More' Patton's Ipecac label....

Long-awaited and finally here+now, one of Vim's best tracks from earlier this year gets a full release. one of the man himself's favourite tracks, it seems almost too elegant to be digital, don't you think? playing with the idiom, he twists it round our finger and spits out the drums again, all filtered, spinning round and round.. hmm, sometimes we feel guilty we don't make people pay for this kinda thing ;)

An excellent track in a guest stylee from smart tdr affiliate meester Paniq, showing that the jungle scene and The Prodigy can have a little soundclash and come off none the worse for wear. Just jiggle the head and swing the hips and you'll get by just fine. Btw, we really recommend using the latest version of MikIt to listen to this track, because it uses resonant filter stuff and things which are only in da new version.. you can get it (v1.0 beta 2!) at:...

A first release from Prob., and this is some powerful messed-up Warp-ish techno, mixed in with a startlingly beautiful ambient track. We say - this is the way to go. You say - we believe you because we believe everything you say because you are the ever-living gods of techno. Well.. that's what we'd like you to say anyhow ;)

A new Monotonik track, and this time a fine release from Kuu. Actually, this one reminds us very much of the classic Harthouse/Eye-Q style of techno, which can only be a good thing. There's enough percussion in here to stun a horse. In case people are still wondering how Mono artists manage to get so much into 4 channels, there's an utility called MOD2SMP which allows the composer to compose a whole drum-pattern in 4 channels, and then output it as a sample which can be used in just 1 channel....

Another of those musicians whose work we've known for a long time, and now finally have a chance to put out, Australia's Epoq has been around ever since his contribution to the Surgery's excellent "Initial Release" compilation a year or two back. And now, with net.releases from online labels like Kahvi, Quanta, and Corewatch, and his debut "Scintilla" CD just released, also on Surgery, we're proud to present the lead-off track from that album, "Simpel". So, what to...

Round, and round, and round he goes. And where he stops, nobody knows. Another king-of-secrets artist delivers a freaky slab of funk that kicks somewhere between Squarepusher, Funki Porcini, and someone else we can't quite place. That's right, sportsfans, the steel drum, the jazz percussion, the weird-as-heck instrumentation, the cowbell, for pity's sake! Does none of this make any sense? Probably not, but it's nice notsense.

...bloody hell, what were we drinking last night? Agh. Er. Anyway. It was Subi's birthday yesterday, he is now 365 days from Last Day, and we had a bit of bash over here in monoRAVEik city. Such a bacchanalian assemblage of best bitter and sexual deviancy has not been seen since the days of George IV. And in honour of this august occasion, and because we're all to drunk to track, we're finally releasing the tune Subi did at the Ars Electronica Electrolobby in 2000 (see here for more info). Only...

Having previously been associated with Substance's excellent net.mod.label Voodoo, Finnish musician Tweeter comes out with his debut for Monotonik, and it's a real treat. "Me And My Friend Lobstah" is a sinewave-smooth electronic trip with boil+bubble drums and widening echo-styled passages leading out to the fill-out, the breakdown, the true wide-screen style. It's strangely reminiscent of an earlier era, the early 90s, but in the best possible way - not retro, just as good as the...

Due to our Thug-ish connections, Monotonik seems to be specialising in fragile idm from the cream of the new talent coming out of Australia right now. So here's another label debut, from Pretty Boy Crossover (PBXO for short, but they prefer it long and ambiguous, and don't you forget it..) They're a duo who've been around for a few years now, developing their gently individual sound all the while, and recently got a lot of interest from Skam, home of.. well, a whole buncha famous people...

The first Mono release by Zyad, our newest member, and it's pretty easy to see how he fits in. Very nicely, as it happens. :) So, we got more downbeat bigbeat pleasures for your cerebellum - just sit up and say thankyou. Although there's definitely some scary, scary static-filled undertones to both these tracks. Be slightly afraid, be very slightly afraid. :)

Yep, there's been quite a few guest-tracks recently. Why? It's cos we like to break things up a bit and throw a few surprises and headshocks in there, we guess :) Mono gets maybe 4 or 5 guest-tunes sent to us a week, so naturally, only the absolutely kick-ass stuff gets through. And here's an example. From members of the rather excellent 3Krew outta deepest darkest Finland, here's a really, _really_ fucked-up triphop track. Wow, canya hear the screaming? Industrial-strength scariness.

Spookily, I've lost all contact with Supernao since his jaunt to England to be at Dan/Anarchy+Lemon's wedding. Maybe he caught the bouquet? :) In the meantime, I'm releasing one of his mellowest cuts, a track which I think was originally going to be for the Amiga disc-mag "RAW". Sadly, RAW's dead, so Mono's putting the tune out instead. Enjoy.

Wu-Twanging it into '96, Mortimer Tee shows us how that funky drummer thing is done. Again. What's nice about Mortimer's tunes is that they're original, stylistically. Some cool dub influences, skirting the hiphop/jungle border skilfully, looping and skipping his way to a blunted existence, that's our Mr. Tee. Wonder if he sprung Face from the mental hospital to help him with this effort? :)
