Another completely original guest-star tune from the 'reclusive' 4T Thieves, stuck out on an island off the South Coast of England making some of the weirdest, most exhileratingly alien MODs I've heard in quite a while. Hear the depth, won't you? Stuck out in the moons of Venus, diving into the seas beneath Saturn, or just chillin' out in your bedroom, Mono takes you out there. Out _there_ :)

In time for another guest-artist spot-ahhh (The Fall!), we have 4T Thieves. He's previously been resident in England, Finland, and now England again, and was formerly an Alcatraz member. You could say he's a pretty oldskool mofo, having written travel diaries in Anarchy's "Stolen Data" mag way back when and done a number of cool Jarre mix-ups a while back. :) Anyhow, the electronic ambience of this beatless track is a nice tonic to all the hihats and snares that have been appearing in...

Our rather dangerous man in Germany, the most blunted Ramone, returns with an intoxicated remix, and isn't it wicked? Wicked in the hellish sense, of course. Check out the original from the Mono archives, way back, and find out how much it's changed. Which is a lot. We're sorry, are we boring you? :) Great tune tho. :)

We last released something from UK idm-er Aereal all the way back in 2001, so we were delighted when he contacted us and asked us to release a short EP with some of the best tracks he's worked on since then. Thus, we have the 'Moved Moment EP', a four-track set of delightfully looping electronic music. So, where are we? We start off with 'Move Moment', a driving, driven piece of percussive melodic goodness, before moving on to the wonderfully smooth 'Direct Medic', and onward and upward to the...

One of the first all-ambient releases on Monotonik in quite some time, this 3-track EP from relatively undiscovered Japanese artist Akira Kosemura is a beautifully naturalistic drift through what sounds like field recordings twinned with sweet sine waves melodies - reminiscent of anything from Lackluster at his most ambient to fellow Japanese Monotonik releaser Sabii. Thus, we have three delicate treats to enjoy - firstly, 'Forest In The Morning' has a repeated motif and an almost sepuchral...

This one's been coming for a while, but the latest release from incredibly unconventional Finnish musician Aleksi Eeben (the .MOD artist formerly known as Heatbeat) is the tremendously obtuse but lovable 'Three Times The Music', 8 tracks of offbeat but somewhat gorgeous bleeps and bloops. Aleksi is, as ever, a bit of a jazz fan, and the kind of melodies and stylings he picks makes him an acquired taste, to say the least. But if you dig the odd, odd grooving of first track 'Clockwork', then...

Finnish old-school Amiga demo scene legend Aleksi Eeben, aka Heatbeat, has never really let up on the composition, but has, rather wonderfully, regressed in his choice of hardware over time, from Amiga, through Commodore 64, to Vic-20, with sideways glances to the Game Boy. Seriously, what else is there to say about Finnish old-school Amiga demo scene legend Aleksi Eeben, aka Heatbeat? Way back in 1990 or so, when he was in his early teens, he produced some of the best music the Amiga has ever heard. As his talent grew throughout the '90s and into the new century, his jazz influences and unique retro electronic background (he also codes music composition software for the Commodore 64, Game Boy and even VIC-20) have produced an unbelievably unique style. We're delighted to welcome back Finnish artist Aleksi Eeben, with the latest in his beguilingly offbeat electronic 'numbers' series for Monotonik, 'The Four Tales' - all soaring leads and strange tonal interplay. Now, it's possible that Eeben - who has been composing electronic music for nearly the past 20 years, initially as Amiga demo-scene legend 'Heatbeat', is a distinctly acquired taste, thanks to his borderline avant jazz influences. But if first track 'Minor Tale' - all sweetly sliding...

And if you're wondering who this Aleksi fellow is and where he came from - well, as Heatbeat of the infamous CNCD, he was regularly voted one of the best ever Amiga .MOD composers back in the early '90s. He's done it again. He's found some vocals no-ones sampled yet (as far as he knows). He's sped them up and pitched them to infinity. He's laid a break over a kickdrum and he's put a synth stab on every half beat. He's also come up with one of the worst dinosaur-related puns ever. Yea, verily DJ Ninjamachine has entered the building, bringing with him yet more of the good mindless happy stuff. And in time our history Will know us as shooting stars I ask for nothing more Than a place to lie down...

And this is where Monotonik and monoRAVEik really part company. Cosmopolitan he may be, but we just can't see h0l seeing this one as the right style for the IDM-ness that our beloved parent specialises in these days. Ladies and gentlemen, leave your brain at the door and grab a bottle of water. It's raving time! "Relentlessly Upfull" is just that. One hundred percent happy happy happy. Piano-riffs and synth-stabs ago-go with a few helium vocals and a diva (Penny Ford in this case)...

This immaculately dressed mix, by Slovenia's DJ Nova, of .MODs (and a few.MP3s) from the all-time tracking great, Sweden's Mortimer Tee, serves to illustrate MT's prodigous and gorgeous output from 1993 to the present day. Always operating beneath the radar, Mortimer is an obscure prodigy who demands your attention - like, why isn't this stuff major-label released? So, whether he's busting out the heavy hiphop grooves of "Streetjazz" or the mixed-up funk cut-ups of "Born...

A little more of the mixed-up-ness for your tired brain, and perhaps the best mix Monotonik's released so far, Slovenia's DJ Nova presents us with a mix of classic older Monotonik tracks from Lackluster/Distance, Prob, Jiva, and others.. In the style of his previous mix for Mono211, but much more laidback, "Oldskoolmonotonikantiks" uses soundscapes, cut-ups, and ethereal voice-overs to really mix things up intelligently, and the selection of tracks is pin-point sharp. In conclusion -...

A guest release from that rarity on m211, someone from a continent outside Europe. This time Darkhalo steps in to show us what an interesting reading the Americans are taking on the whole d+b thing, encompassing Californian breakbeat, acid b-lines, and even some Transeau shaken up in there - just the right side of catchy, we fear, and fully compatible with the breaks and beats that m211 insists on releasing in such a hipflask lackadaisical fashion..

Another debut, then, and this time an American practitioner of the dark idm arts, in the form of Ann Arbor, MI-based Dead Eros. Monsieur Eros has run his own Music Is For Assholes label for some time, hangs with the Ghostly International chaps, but produces a distinctly contrasting output to anything they might put out - from light, sinewave-strewn idm to dark, foreboding ambient. Thus, 'When EP' is three pieces of brightness and one chunk of shadow, with lead track 'When We Are Home'...

We first released Michigan-based foreboding idm superstar Dead Eros on Monotonik back in 2005, and are delighted to welcome him back with this 4-track release, 'Cycle EP', all slightly spooky, overlapping electronics in a distinctly regional, but distinctly original way. We start out with 'Specific Ocean', which is fuzzed-up angular metal funk, in a laid back way, before going on to the keyboard-flecked, downtempo 'Ignite Alarm', which is heavy on the shuffle, almost half-speed drill and bass...

Yep, there's been quite a few guest-tracks recently. Why? It's cos we like to break things up a bit and throw a few surprises and headshocks in there, we guess :) Mono gets maybe 4 or 5 guest-tunes sent to us a week, so naturally, only the absolutely kick-ass stuff gets through. And here's an example. From members of the rather excellent 3Krew outta deepest darkest Finland, here's a really, _really_ fucked-up triphop track. Wow, canya hear the screaming? Industrial-strength scariness.

Danish idm musician Delayscape has been prolific since his debut 'Everybody Drops' release for Monotonik in 2006, with releases on netlabels including Acrylik, Musicartistry and Cold Room, and we're delighted to welcome him back to us with the funky, borderline squelchy electronics of 'VCOs or DCOs'. It all starts out with 'Patch Point Blank', which throws around the fuzzy warbles in alluring ways, before 'Breaking The Square Waves' gets funkier still, with some surprisingly guttural synth...

Up the tempo, up it.. a guest showing for Mono's Swiss homie Dexter as we make sure your brain waves hit maximum phase. Brutal but skilful, that's the way to kick it. Prince Blimey says so. Btw, there's also a 2nd part to this tune - it may or may not surface in the future. Frankly, we don't think you could take it. ;)

Ridiculously hot day here at Mono HQ, and a suitably humid and oppressive release to suit it. Dharma comes on strong with a 'Sunstroke Mix' of this excellent downbeat track, complete with weird jazzy inflexions. Perhaps you can see why he's joined up with Mono now? :) We're scared of him, at least. ;P

Dharma never bums us out, and here's another track that hits all the right notes, percussively and chill-wise. Very wise,in fact, as it hips and hops and hippety-hops around in a kinda jazzy drummy funky way. Dub is love, this is almost better than the karma police coming round your house and taking you away. Heh, my karma ran over your dogma, man. :)

Our Finnish jazz-freak returns with an absolutely wicked track, complete with flute played by himself, and triphop atmospherics blending into some freestyle d+b... as jazzed-down and tripped-up as it gets. Don't stop (don't stop.. don't stop.. don't stop..) [Oh, this was meant to be a 4-channel MOD, but it doesn't play correctly on the Amiga ('cos some of the channels get too high, octave-wise), so it's being released as an XM instead. Hope nobody minds, it sounds identical.]

Time for the third Monotonik release, and it's another damn original track, this time by Dharma. In any case, it's a great new release, it's "piercing your eardrums at 300m/s", and there's a danger of hospitalisation from the whiplash. So wear your hard hats and enjoy the chaos. :)

After Mono was awfully disappointed to have missed Distance's last EP (released on Tokyo Dawn Records), this time round we caught the wave, and we're proud to present a brand-new set of tracks from him. There's little doubt that he's one of the major talents tracking techno on the music scene right now, and his songs remain constantly unpredictable, stark, suave, and ass-kicking by equal measures. Keep it up, mon. A couple of these tracks even fit on Mono very well (especially "Only My...

This is one we've been saving up for some time, and it's a _big_ treat. Distance/Orange hasn't really had many tunes widely released, and here's probably his first major release. But look what we've been missing. Here's three of the most beautiful, soulful minimal tracks Mono's heard in a very, very long time. Kick back, and enjoy.

Although Distance appears to think he's the worst musician in the world, heh, his tracks speak volumes about how good he really is. Which is pretty damn majestic, really. Here's another instalment of the swirling, dense, melody-repetition-led techno that makes him one of the best elektronik musicians on the scene right now. "A Walking Simmer" is an especially good example of twisted logic made sound. And "Soundscapes 2"... whoa! Enjoy the macabre.

For some reason we seem to have managed to make the description of this release sound somewhat like a crossword clue - oh well, no matter. Originally an entry into gc27, this is the 16-bit version of a truly beautiful track by Finnish idm maverick Distance. We should probably point out that it adheres to the Aphex Twin's anagram methods of tune naming, too - clever boy, clever boy. In any case, listen, sway, hum happily, and appreciate.
