Something distinctly different, this mp3 release is from the English artist 3818919/w, of which little can be revealed - other than the fact he works in computer games as a graphics artist and is also responsible for the rather cool mp3-cover to this release. This track was done with a cacophony of cantankerous old analogue synths and drum machines and is distinctly influenced by a number of Warp and Rephlex artists. But we like to think the beguiling melodies and intriguing percussion bring a...

The first EP release online from Monotonik, and that quirky English idm-ster, 3818919/w, comes up trumps with some beautiful tracks influenced by everything from Bola through Bochum Welt to Plone. The lead track, "Nachos Supreme", is full of wonderfully twisty riffs and nimble drums, and "Ages" and "Cheshire" float into melodic ambience of the slightly surreal, fevered kind, whilst the final tune, "Shift-Break", uses clunks and robot voices to bring the...

Having last released a track on Mono almost exactly 4 years ago, it's really been quite a long time away from the label for Isle Of Wight,UK/Finland based 4T Thieves, who's an oldskool Amiga demo-scener of the highest grade, and also operates under the name Soundstate. However, his return to the Monotonik fold is much welcomed, and this particular piece of casually expansive retro-activeness is strangely early-90s, in the best 'Artifical Intelligence'-influenced ways. With soaring chords and...

Our rather dangerous man in Germany, the most blunted Ramone, returns with an intoxicated remix, and isn't it wicked? Wicked in the hellish sense, of course. Check out the original from the Mono archives, way back, and find out how much it's changed. Which is a lot. We're sorry, are we boring you? :) Great tune tho. :)

In time for another guest-artist spot-ahhh (The Fall!), we have 4T Thieves. He's previously been resident in England, Finland, and now England again, and was formerly an Alcatraz member. You could say he's a pretty oldskool mofo, having written travel diaries in Anarchy's "Stolen Data" mag way back when and done a number of cool Jarre mix-ups a while back. :) Anyhow, the electronic ambience of this beatless track is a nice tonic to all the hihats and snares that have been appearing in...

Another completely original guest-star tune from the 'reclusive' 4T Thieves, stuck out on an island off the South Coast of England making some of the weirdest, most exhileratingly alien MODs I've heard in quite a while. Hear the depth, won't you? Stuck out in the moons of Venus, diving into the seas beneath Saturn, or just chillin' out in your bedroom, Mono takes you out there. Out _there_ :)

Continuing our interest in where the crunchy retro of videogame music meets the now and future of life away from your Nintendo, the mysterious AY88 (no name, no packdrill) delves deep into the innards of his primitive sound creation devices, and comes up with the exquisite tangent of "Console-Related Depression". Thus, whilst the first part of the EP bounces solid analog bass with metronome-style backing and gorgeously smooth arpegiating to infinity in an almost .SID style, the second...

A debut of distinction, this, as a brand-new artist from the UK, Aereal, kindly grabs our attention with this emotional "Connect"-ion that truly shines. Reminiscent of the rangiest early 90s material from dark canines and their ilk, "Connect" blends the background industrial clank to the lushest of strings and percussive clicks to make, honestly, one of the dreamiest tracks we've put out in ages. And if Aereal isn't significantly more well-known, significantly quickly, we'll...

We last released something from UK idm-er Aereal all the way back in 2001, so we were delighted when he contacted us and asked us to release a short EP with some of the best tracks he's worked on since then. Thus, we have the 'Moved Moment EP', a four-track set of delightfully looping electronic music. So, where are we? We start off with 'Move Moment', a driving, driven piece of percussive melodic goodness, before moving on to the wonderfully smooth 'Direct Medic', and onward and upward to the...

We're very pleased to follow up our initial release from UK-based idm-er Aereal with this contemplatively complex, wonderfully circumspect 2-track EP which we're convinced cements his reputation as the best artist you've never heard of. Something we hope we'll change. The EP leads off with "Bacurex", a tour de force of understated, melodically dense electronics in the tradition of the best B12 or Black Dog releases. And "Metro Cammell", the second track, stuns further, with...

One of the first all-ambient releases on Monotonik in quite some time, this 3-track EP from relatively undiscovered Japanese artist Akira Kosemura is a beautifully naturalistic drift through what sounds like field recordings twinned with sweet sine waves melodies - reminiscent of anything from Lackluster at his most ambient to fellow Japanese Monotonik releaser Sabii. Thus, we have three delicate treats to enjoy - firstly, 'Forest In The Morning' has a repeated motif and an almost sepuchral...

Seriously, what else is there to say about Finnish old-school Amiga demo scene legend Aleksi Eeben, aka Heatbeat? Way back in 1990 or so, when he was in his early teens, he produced some of the best music the Amiga has ever heard. As his talent grew throughout the '90s and into the new century, his jazz influences and unique retro electronic background (he also codes music composition software for the Commodore 64, Game Boy and even VIC-20) have produced an unbelievably unique style. This one's been coming for a while, but the latest release from incredibly unconventional Finnish musician Aleksi Eeben (the .MOD artist formerly known as Heatbeat) is the tremendously obtuse but lovable 'Three Times The Music', 8 tracks of offbeat but somewhat gorgeous bleeps and bloops. Welcome to Monotonik's brand new year, courtesy of a debut release (or is it?) from Finn and self-proclaimed cosmic superspy, Aleksi Virta. We're delighted to showcase the first Monotonik EP fromAmerican artist Matt Centonze, under his Blisaed moniker.Matt's released on smaller netlabels and his own site as Echion and Mistrial before, but the "As Time Passes EP" drifts through some beautifully produced indie electronic moods, alternately sophisticated and restful. First off, it's "Megan's Guitar", with some serene spokenword and strummed guitar melding wonderfully, before "Far From Home" works up the...

Returning after his debut 'As Time Passes EP' of last year, US electronic artist Matt Centonze, aka Blisaed , who's been continuing to release excellent material on netlabels such as Camomille and Ronin Collective , graces us with another gently beautiful 4-track EP of vocal-specked, emotion-tinged electronics. This time round, debut song 'Photo' starts things off with casually gorgeous melodies, all multi-layered and shimmering and oxidizing slowly as it's exposed to the air, before 'A Silent...

We're absolutely delighted to put out a third release from Swedish electronic artist Bliss, aka Henrik Jose, over a year after his well-received ' It's Not The Sweetness... ' EP. Since then, he's collaborated with music video directors Pleix (Basement Jaxx, Plaid, Futureshock) on an experimental video, while continuing to work on new material, but shines out his late 2003 vintage in 'Goodbye Brain, Hello Heart EP', a shimmering block of entirely instrumental sound produced in his Lund studio...

The second release from Sweden's Bliss , aka Henrik Jose, and this lovingly crafted 3-track EP cements his reputation as creator of some of the lushest, most beautiful electronics around. With his previous net.label releases on Fairlight Music and success at the Assembly demoparty last year, his vocal-blended, multi-layered, live instrument-appropriating angle creates, well, just sublime results, well-deserving of a record deal any time now, we reckon. This EP starts out with 'Transportation Is...

Another new artist that turned heads immediately at Monotonik HQ, the Swedish-based Henrik 'Bliss' Jose, has been releasing tracks on net.label Fairlight Music for a while now, and when he came to us with this lushly produced, vocal-dotted electronic track, originally composed back in 2001, we snapped it up. "Life On The Rooftop" starts out with some carefully placed organ, and segues into a full vocal-manipulated, densely produced track reminiscent of some of the earlier Super...

Finally sorted, a debut guest-release from Bogdan. Although we may have mentioned something about him before, all you need to know is that his email address is karl@cse.unl.edu, and he's previously been very sceptical about releasing through groups. This is certainly original - perhaps closest to the spirit of Squarepusher and Aphex Twin in their most junglistic modes. But different. As they say, nice.

It's good to come back to what you know, and we felt like UK artist Braces Tower , previously member of the Wiija-signed, Radiohead-supporting, Peel Session-ing Loveblobs way back in the mists of time, was due another release on Monotonik with his delightful blend of sass, electronics, and intelligent sampledelica, since his first ' Pshhh EP ' was so well received by all a year or two back. So we asked him nicely, and the round-up compilation 'Pasteism' is the unholy result. So there's a great...

It's interesting that Mono211 was originally meant to be the 'main label' that us here at Monotonik released music on. This was mainly because we were known in our early .MOD days for being eclectic, unclassifiable genre jumpers, and we wanted to carry that tradition on. But in the end, we found our love of idm+videogamebleep action on Monotonik took front stage (and rightly so!) But most of all, we found that there's just not that many artists making good but 'unclassifiable' music that really...

Carebear's multichannel competition winner, as promised, and it's a classy melange of all sorts of nice stuff - wicked speech samples, too. Kinda DJ Hype + Ganja Kru for our scene? :) Carebear's another Mono member who does 4-channel and multichannel stuff, anyway - both Dreamfish and Supernao promise some multichannel action soon too.

Definitely a sit back, relax, chill out and dream experience from Carebear, showing what he does the very best. Go on, imagine yourself in the seas of Mars, deep in the ice caverns of Venus, or even inside your own brain. Do you like it in there? Close to home is the furthest out we can get, pretty often.

This debut release by Carebear is a wonderfully tranquil, meandering ambient piece. Not without beats, but with enough mellow percussion to give you that totally horizontal feeling. :) You only need to check the songtext to get all the information you need, forever. "The answer is in your mind".

Time for techno? Carebear immediately overturns the mellow image he's cultivated from previous Mono releases with this smart piece of ?0? riddim. Apparently, with a De La Soul sample, too, although not exactly an obvious one, izit? Nice.

Here we go again with one of the strangest Mono releases so far, but still a _very_ nice one. Carebear's got some strange ideas in that twisted little head of his, anyhow. :) This tune is actually quite choppy in a weird way, but it's flowing too. And lots of nice percussion always makes me feel better after a long day at the office. See, we _do_ come up with something different to the normal trance/jungle output we seem to put out.

UK artist Chris Wigman is Casimir's Blake, and this intriguing Monotonik release, 'The Silence In Fragile Space', plays out like a planetarium soundtrack to end all soundtracks, echoing all kinds of gorgeous sustained chords through history. Following up a release on Kahvi, this full-length album starts as it means to go on with 'Achird Supernovae', flittering strings and depths of space to the fore. It certainly gets darker elsewhere, with 'Rich's Feyd' one of the more edge-wise, skuttering...

So, we made it - '10 Years Of Monotonik - The Mix' is testament to that. It's hard to believe that it was in early 1996 that we first started up our net.label Mono - initially as a .MOD-only label, since this was before the days of MP3s (and, indeed, of very wide use of the Internet.) What a long way we've come since then. The first couple of years, for those who recall it, actually had individual Commodore Amiga-based BBSes distributing our material as 'official distros', before FTP sites such...

A long time coming, the third Monotonik release from Chromatic Flights, aka Florida's Kyle Wyss, debuts after some heavy buzz for his main project, the two-man band Blind Man's Colour, online. In fact, with none other than Kanye West linking his Blind Man's Colour material and the band signed to Kanine Records (Grizzly Bear, Mommy And Daddy), we're delighted to be continuing to put out his solo material for Monotonik fans. Continuing from his first and second free releases on Monotonik,...

A debut, then, for Florida-based Kyle Wyss, under his electronic music alias Chromatic Flights, with the floating, serene indietronica of 'Memories From The Audible Colour Wheel EP' - some of the lusher, more indie-influenced instrumental grooves we've run across in a while. Wyss is just 17 years old, and we'll let him explain: "This is my first solo EP (Memories from the Audible Colour Wheel), but I've been playing in an indie/experimental rock band for about 4 years. Monotonik has made it to its 200th MP3-based release (and probably somewhere over its 400th overall release, counting sublabels and .MODs), and this milestone comes in the form of Chromatic Flights' second release for the label, 'Heavy Stars Will Fall'. Florida-based Kyle Wyss follows up his 'Memories From The Audible Color Wheel' Monotonik debut with more vaguely psychedelic, beautifully phrased idm, strangely strung out but wonderfully put together. It starts with 'Found Glow', all spaced out...

Our Antipodean friend returns with this most excellent, super-mellow track from the end of last year. Watch it fly and swoop unobtrusively. :) I guess Chuck tends more towards the conventional than a lot of our members (I've heard him complaining that he can't get to do some of the more far-out jungle/triphop stuff we make because he just can't get the samples!), but his conventionality doesn't hide his musicality. Listen, and enjoy.

Apologies to our wikked Australian house-freak for not getting this one out particularly quickly, but our minds were stuck in 4-channel mode, and it took a while to find the multichannel groove again. But phew, what a scorcher. ;) No wonder Chuck's the darling of Kosmic fans, MOD4WIN users, and the kitchen sink the world over. Keep me cockatoo cool, willya? ;)

Part 2.0 of whirldominaschaaan begins with the start of the real Mono multichannel releases, and the first one's a trancey, beats+feet-led kikker from ChuckB (Australian ex-Kosmic member, no mook at composing, ya know.) And I do believe he's actually got a 303 (cue for all other Mono members to trample him to the ground. :P ) Nice use of an old Otis tune in there, too - in fact, mucho respecto, gringo all round. Am I making sense? :)

We're delighted to welcome back René 'Ckid' Margraff, the German electronic artist who released on Monotonik back in 2000 (as Crashkid) and 2001, and went on to notable physical releases on Becalmed and Duotone Records, back to the label with a beautifully formed, evocative full-length album, 'Down With Ghosts'. Full of chanted and whispered vocals and an evocative, almost shoegaze-centric attitude to idm/electronics, 'Down With Ghosts' starts with the semi-conscious drawl of 'From A To Z',...

In his second release for Monotonik, German artist Ckid (also known as Crashkid) expands on his chilled but warm style that's marvellously close to the indie side of electronica, and all the better for it. We can only stand the beeps for so long, you know. So, lead-off track "TV-People" tickles you under the chin with drifty organ and crispy percussion action, before phasing in and out some nifty melodics. See, drifty, crispy, nifty? At which point, "Speaksoon" takes organic...
