This third-party compilation is one of three put together by an unknown person and spread on P2P networks, and acts as a 'best of' for Monotonik. We decided it has excellent track choice (check out early tracks from Whiskas and Jiva in particular), plus a number of tracks only normally available in .MOD form as .MP3s, so we've made it an official release and added it to our catalog - the Internet and freely distributed music comes up with cool ideas like this if you're lucky. Finnish old-school Amiga demo scene legend Aleksi Eeben, aka Heatbeat, has never really let up on the composition, but has, rather wonderfully, regressed in his choice of hardware over time, from Amiga, through Commodore 64, to Vic-20, with sideways glances to the Game Boy. But it's his C64 equivalent of 'The White Album', the appropriately named 'The White Box', which sums up some of his borderline deviant SID-chip excursions over the previous few years. The actual 'White Box' artifact is a ...

After releasing a pseudonymous EP from Finland's Aleksi Eeben a few months ago, we kept an eye on hiswork further, only to discover the _amazing_ Commodore 64 work he's been doing with his self-coded John Player, which brings a 'tracker'-style interface to bear on the C64. And if you're wondering who this Aleksi fellow is and where he came from - well, as Heatbeat of the infamous CNCD, he was regularly voted one of the best ever Amiga .MOD composers back in the early '90s. So, given a few...

We're proud to welcome the debut release on Monotonik from Stefan Ternemar, the Swedish artist also known as S.T. 'Emotions In A Box' is Stefan's first set of songs released anywhere outside his own webpage, and it's a fitting introduction to his bold, melodically strident idm electronics. First off would be 'Downtown', almost Huelsbeck-ian in its wish to get straight down to brass tacks and blast you with carefully considered catchiness, heaping layer upon layer of gorgeously synthetic sounds...

This third set of releases, spanning October 2002 to October 2003, from our net.label Monotonik showcases more of the diversity between retro beepiness and increasing indielectronic influences. Some highlights might include the sublime Grandma EPs, showcasing one of the youngest and breakthrough-est Monotonik artists, some gorgeous Australian electronics with Super Science's re-issues, more retro beep from the 'Best Of AHX' compilation, and lots more good stuff from Kaamos, Ernesto Aeroflot and...

Welcome to Monotonik's brand new year, courtesy of a debut release (or is it?) from Finn and self-proclaimed cosmic superspy, Aleksi Virta. He fearlessly busts out this supremely accomplished album of jazzy, dubby electronics, originally released on a scandalously limited, horrendously collectible 100-copy sold-out CDR edition, and now, thankfully available to the general public via the wonders of the Internet. So basically, we're looking at everything from the headnodding organ jam of 'Nebulae...

About as elektronik as you can get, this LP features conversions of some of the best computer music ever. Martin Galway, Rob Hubbard, Fred Gray.. legends, all of them. We hope you enjoy Dreamfish's versions of these wicked Commodore 64 SID tunes, anyhow - some of these conversions have been released before, and some haven't seen the outside of Dreamfishie's bedroom.) In any case, thanks to the original artists, wherever you may be now. Carpe diem.

Mono's final release of 1997, most likely, and an appropriately.. nice one. :) Vim! really kicks the technique unlike anyone else, and here's another example of that fact. I mean, _what_ is going on here? Can anyone tell us? It's Aphex Twin meeting Tim Follin on a deserted road and beating the crap outta each other, we guess. Stand well clear and watch for the pyrotechnics. :)

We like it when old friends return to Monotonik, and after his very well-received EP on our net.label last year, Holland's excellent Secede provides a truly epic new track, "The Whistler", ahead of his "Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic" album forthcoming on Merck , and his smart-ola remix work for N5MD and Merck. As promised, and as most of you have been dreading/looking forward to, the Subi best-of retrospective has finally arrived. Throughout his 11 years making music in the Amiga 'demo-scene' and outside, Sam Brown, aka Subi, and formerly known as Subculture, has always shown originality and a doggedness that's characterised his excellent output. The typical Subi release blends cheeky samples, breakbeats, and rampant catchiness to produce something that's pretty much unlike most of the other music...

This 10-trackalbum showcases his unpredictable but riveting style excellently,as '80s bleep sounds and stuttering electro mix up with distortedunrest, sweeping electronica, and a wholly surprising bonus cut to create something...

The Monotonik mix-terror continues with German musician, DJ, and collaborator sys(2074), maintainer of the Corewatch Conspiracy, and boy, what a cute lil near-75-minute mix he's concocted for us Earth aliens. Not purely content with tricking around with Drexciya, Techno Animal and Alec Empire, sys(2074) throws his own little interludes and even Vektrex on a Monotonik tip into the whole caboodle. Highly recommended on the dark-ish intriguing-ish tip. Tracklisting: 01. BASS-O-MATIC love catalogue...

Ladies and gentlemen, back for an encore, and WHAT an encore, it's our friend and yours, the incorrigible, indelible  Jake Kaufman , also known as  Virt , with the second installment of his astounding NES chip disc, now known as 'fx 2.0'. Since the mtk.release of the original 'fx', which was an entire imaginary NES soundtrack in pint-size .S3M format, Jake has been doing demi-deific stuff with Nintendo's sound chips in his primary career as a game musician. His "Atlantis: The Lost...

We're delighted to debut the first Monotonik release from the Chicago-based Renzu, a professional 3D animator and self-described 'animation nerd' and composer of rather deliciously lush IDM soundscapes. And the 'Reiha EP' is just a sampling of his layered, deceptively complex electronic music stylings. Renzu explains of his background: "My story is very typical of my generation of IDM artists in that I got inspired by BBS/internet computer music and started with trackers from an early age...

A long, long time in the making, U.S. artist Troupe presents his first EP for Monotonik, 'It's Really Pretty Simple After All', a plain spectacular mix of demo-scene inspired electronica, soaring melodies, and beautiful vocals. Imagine, if you will, an American who has grown up and been musically influenced by the greats of the Amiga demo-scene - which this label itself was birthed from in 1996. Then mix in transcendent vocals reminiscent of favorite Monotonik releases like Bliss, and you get...

This time, a fine debut from mysterious Norwegian idm-er Coax, also known as Reflex, and with his only previous release being the ultra-obscure, self-released 'Showcase' CD. He helps us out on Monotonik with a first release in the form of the electro-tinged, extremely catchy, almost retro video game-like electronics of the 'Blackened EP' - and we thank him. First up is the pounding, electro-happy beat of '1984', all pure sinewaves and sustain, as Coax taps into the pure melodies and simple joys...

This follow-up third-party, but now Monotonik-embraced 'best of' collection, put together by an unknown person and spread on P2P networks, has more well-chosen MP3 and pre-MP3 releases from our electronic netlabel on it. Again a number of tracks only normally available in .MOD form as .MP3s, so we've made it an official release and added it to our catalog - watch out for the excellent Zyad remix of Vim!, and some cool early Prob and Hoffman tracks. We first hooked up with shadowy U.S. artist Beak earlier in 2003, when he made an 'absolutely checken' appearance, providing us with a few choice tracks featuring his unconventional but beautiful twinning of multi-tracked acoustic guitars and harder electronics. But it's taken us until now to choose the absolutely perfect combination of sweet and savory songs from his extensive, largely publically unreleased output for the enchanting randomly titled 'Amoral Mayor Earwig EP'. So, where did we...

Not necessarily one of Monotonik's most 'normal' releases, but heartily welcomed anyhow, this unconventional glitch-electronic 7-track EP is from the oddly named Gaza F*gg*t, who can best be described as, well, an alter ego of a previous Monotonik releaser. It all starts off with the gentle organ of 'Horse With Gold Teeth', before the latter end of the track gets all warped and Japanese-speech sampling, before the completely awesome 'Rotten Fruit Messageboard Apology' arrives, all explicit...

With summer slowly sliding into autumn, we figured a little contemplative ambience was in order, and Japanese artist Sabi, who released on Mono a _long_ time back with .MODs under the name of Taro, and has since done excellent work for net.labels like Inpuj. On this EP, beautiful, puretoned sinewaves mix with sampled ambience from real-life, as "Yello Sand Back" gives us the subtlest drifts of sound ever, "Johdo" iterates in the smallest of ethereal beats, and "Uki 3...

Having been beguiled by the retro bleep sensibilities of Japanese videogame composer Akihiro Ito, aka Blasterhead , ever since hearing some of his Nintendo GameBoy tracks via Osaka-based 'chiptune' meta-site Vorc.org , we hunted him down, and the results of this predatory action come in the form of the wonderful GameBoy-based rave bleep release you see before you, 'Killbots EP'. When he's not sneaking off for some GameBoy rave action, Blasterhead is sometimes sneaking GB sounds into the...

We continue proceedings with this mp3 from Distance, aka Lackluster , our Finnish amigo and master of the understated ambient techno mood. This particular track drifts and phases its way around in a most attractive way.. so, just chill out, put your feet up and check out this most glacial of grooves. Yet again Monotonik tends towards the Pete Namlook/ FAX stylings we admire so much.

It's always good to find an original, slightly more maverick voice in the world of electronics - someone who, if not channelling the punk aesthetic, at least goes out on a little more of a limb to imbue their music with edge, unpredictability and, well, soul. So, when US-based Grandma sent us a whole raft of his music, we immediately cottoned on to the mix of alternately classic idm-ish melodies, super-intricate drill+bass programming, and improvised guitars/vocals. That in itself should be...

Following the first Monotonik release from Swedish idm-ish artist Stefan Ternemar, aka ST, in 2003, we waited around a little, and suddenly, another EP popped up. Interestingly, although the first 'Emotions In A Box' release was very much epic electronic, almost Chris Huelsbeck-ian synthwork, everyone evolves, and thanks to guest spots from a fellow Swedish Monotonik artist (check the ID3 tags for a hint), and some new influences, the 'I'll Meet You There EP' keeps the epic melodies, but slides...

Monotonik has made it to its 200th MP3-based release (and probably somewhere over its 400th overall release, counting sublabels and .MODs), and this milestone comes in the form of Chromatic Flights' second release for the label, 'Heavy Stars Will Fall'. Florida-based Kyle Wyss follows up his 'Memories From The Audible Color Wheel' Monotonik debut with more vaguely psychedelic, beautifully phrased idm, strangely strung out but wonderfully put together. It starts with 'Found Glow', all spaced out...

A guest release from that rarity on m211, someone from a continent outside Europe. This time Darkhalo steps in to show us what an interesting reading the Americans are taking on the whole d+b thing, encompassing Californian breakbeat, acid b-lines, and even some Transeau shaken up in there - just the right side of catchy, we fear, and fully compatible with the breaks and beats that m211 insists on releasing in such a hipflask lackadaisical fashion..

After his first release in Monotonik on 2007, the 'Grating Rainbows' EP, we are absolutely delighted to present a long in-development full album -- 'Sprinkling Rainbows' from the UK resident Bitbasic, whose super-funky drill and bass attitude to jazzy electronica makes it one of our favorite label releases of the last few years. In a similar fashion to earlier Monotonik releases like Aleksi Virta's album, 'Grating Rainbows' cuts up the jazzy breaks with the electronic in entirely alluring ways,...

The debut EP from rather way-out Mono member Vim!, this serves as a showcase for his, well, totally original style. There sure as hell ain't many tunes like this coming out, and it makes a refreshing change to hear something different. Even if "Your Cup Of Tea" is so far out, it makes 4T Thieves' ambient madness sound relatively normal. As far as Mono HQ remembers, Vim! told us this track was composed using all of his homegenerated samples. Mad nuttah. :)

The debut release from Canada's contemplative, indielectronic Oveloe , aka Charles Bisaillon, who's previously released an excellent EP on net.label Kikapu , shows a beautifully phrased grasp of strangely retro-sounding, but absolutely not bleep heavy electronics. Soulful, considered, and intelligent, it makes the weirdest sense to us. As for the individual songs, 'Transistor Love', the first track, allows a throbbing backbeat drift and a plaintive, multi-tiered lead, before seguing into an...

Completely licensed via Creative Commons, and even using multiple CC-licensed recordings as samples, SinQ's blend of triphop, electronics, and ambient is evocative and beautiful, with first track 'Who's Afraid Of...

Since Twilight is sitting next to me as I write this, it's going to be difficult to write anything without feeling very paranoid. :) Anyhow, the tune's got style, the tune's got grace, Rita.. oops, I almost started vogueing there. Twilight isn't peeking, apparently. Oh, and you may well spot a little reference to Hades in the tune. Phew, it's hot down there. And hot up here too, or would be if 'they' cared. Another completely original guest-star tune from the 'reclusive' 4T Thieves, stuck out on an island off the South Coast of England making some of the weirdest, most exhileratingly alien MODs I've heard in quite a while. Hear the depth, won't you? Stuck out in the moons of Venus, diving into the seas beneath Saturn, or just chillin' out in your bedroom, Mono takes you out there. Out _there_ :)
