If you like The Doors, you'll probably like this.
I was one of those kids in the summer of 1967 who was hit by the sound of "Light My Fire" on the only two AM stations in our town that played it. In a departure from the norm, those stations alternated between the 45 and the album cut, which blew us garage band students even further away!
That's what the records sounded like; as for their live performances, uh ... in many cases, not so much. But the audiences of that time probably ate this crap up, much as how Deadheads accepted the sounds of a Grateful Dead concert -- at least until the drugs wore off.
This is not to say that there isn't any value to this video, or at least it might be the case had the Internet been a thing in our garage band days. It would've made it easier for us to figure out the tunes instead of wearing our LPs out many times over.
The content of this video serves as a great documentary of not only The Doors, but also of the crappy sound equipment bands of the '60s were subjected to onstage.
Jim's performance was typically uneven, and the band struggled to fill in the musical gaps left by Jim in the show.
Bottom line: it's not "Absolutely Live," but it ain't too bad. This is why I gave it a middle-of-the-road rating.
For those who haven't seen this yet, it's worth watching once.
