maria: wow. so talk more about the significance of it because, you know, the critic wills push back and say look, let's not forget the fact that north korea has not done anything just yet, in terms of denuclearization. the president has been trying to prod denuclearization and trying hard to get kim jong-un to think differently. the significance of this meeting is what? >> the difference is they are no longer testing the places -- studied in history, remember when we had the soviet union and president reagan went to moscow, went to the soviet union, sat with gorbachev but had to get up and walk away because it did not bring the freedom that everybody looked for. the liberal media criticized him, but in a few short years, the berlin wall collapsed and so did the soviet union. no way would this happen in a short-term, but just think where were we four years ago? where were we in the obama administration or the clinton administration or the bush administration? we started this with people criticizin

maria: right. i presume you're not expecting the federal reserve to cut interest rates at its upcoming meeting. >> yeah, that's right. for a few reasons, one is we haven't seen the growth slowdown in the hard numbers yet. it's somewhat of a forecast. second, we do have the g20 meeting the week after, so you could have, you know, there are potential good scenarios that could come out of that -- maria: that's true. >> the fed may want to wait and see what happens with those meetings as well as what happens with the june data. and then if, you know, things are actually softening, there's a meeting in late july. so it would seem like waiting a few weeks to get some certainty around what's going on wouldn't be such a problem for the fed. and also they really haven't been signaling, you know, that much concern about growth. powell did say last week that they're monitoring the situation and will act as needed, but, you know, they're not really ringing the alarm bells. we think they probably hold next week

maria: yeah. particularly since the chinese have made it clear that they're not going to give up stealing intellectual property. and it doesn't appear that president trump could do a deal unless they commit to stopping the theft of ip. so we'll see what happens next week at the g20. the president said he's going to meet with president xi next week. of course, a deal can't be done, i don't think, in a day, but maybe we'll get more clarity next week. the the president's going to g20. he said he spoke with president xi, and they will have a meeting. >> well, what i expect is, yes, we'll have these little bits of information as we always have had, right? where there's a tweet that comes out that says something positive, and you can see how the u.s. markets respond tremendously positively when that happens. so i expect that to go on. and as an investor, what you look for is when there is a negative piece of information out there, your favorite stocks usually dip. it's a classic behavior, and that's a t

>> i do, maria. as long as congress makes it very clear that we're standing behind the president, we're going to do things differently. past administrations, democrat and republican, have failed to actually use the capabilities, the might of american economy to get china to play by the rules. china came close to having an agreement. they went back, talked with their leaders they stepped away from an agreement and principle and a lot of that had to do with enforcement. it's one thing to get an agreement. one thing i know about this president if they cheat and don't live up to it there's a consequence and china would like to take out president trump and this congress. we're not going to let them do that and that's why we've got to move quickly. this can't be a matter of years this has to be a matter of months to get an agreement we think is fair for american workers and workers in north carolina. maria: yeah, but china is already escalating what has been an already spiraling issue or huawei, the chines

maria: hi. what kind of regulatory environment you're looking for, what specific regulations are you expecting to actually allow these flying cars in the sky by 2023? it all sounds great and it's a lot of p happy talk but when you actually think about all of those things, those vehicles in the sky, there has to be organization and obviously regulation. so can you lay out for us specific regulation that you would expect to materialize in order for this thing to get in the air? >> yeah, absolutely. so we actually will be operating under the same set of regulations that govern aircraft, both vehicles and operations right now. we don't need any legislative change. we don't need any rule change. we're working with the faa to take existing rules and to use them and apply them in the right way to this knew form of transportation. maria: that sounds like a hefty task given the fact that you're talking about just a few years, 2023, in order to have the existing air rules that we have for planes to fly as

maria: yeah. what do you think the messaging out of the fed, lindsey, will be when jay powell takes the podium tomorrow? >> it's going to be tough for him. he's going to have to tap dance around a lot of difficult questions for sure. i think the message is going to be that the fed is willing to stand by the markets in case the tariff situation escalates and it impacts the global economic environment. so i think the market will be reassured by that. you also saw by the way the ecb came out today and dradi is out there saying he's willing to stand by and make changes should the economic environment weaken there. maria: they're all standing by, ready to act, should things turn lower. we'll see that. right now, i'm not seeing evidence that things are slowing down all that much with the exception of the purchasing manager's index, the pmi certainly. we'll keep watching that. joining the conversation this morning, we have the head of libra at facebook, david marcus is joining us. they're launching a new

maria: welcome back. with trade battles being fought on various fronts, the ceo of walmart, doug mcmillon has a front-row seat on how tariffs are affecting retailers. i asked how tariffs are affecting walmart. and whether we'll see higher prices. >> it's important to us. here in the u.s., about 2/3 of the products we sell are made in the u.s.a. and our merchants for a long time have been working on mitigation plans in what's happening with the conversations in china and as of late the conversation around mexico. we hope these relationships -- these negotiations get resolved on both sides whether it's here in the u.s. or mexico or china. in mexico in particular a lot of our fresh fruits and vegetables, things like tomatoes and avocados come across from mexico. maria: the grocery portion of the business has been growing and a key focus for you as well. are you expecting to see prices go up as a result of this uncertainty in mexico for some of those grocery items? >> that's the last thing we want to see. we
