I have a black-and-blue mark on my arm … its been there for a long while and won't be disappearing any time soon. Its there as a result of my need to pinch myself each and every time I listen to the music on weareallghosts. I need to pinch myself to ensure I am not dreaming … that this wee netlabel isn't in fact some ridiculous fantasy of the calibre of an episode of Dallas. The music I have had the privilege to release is truly exceptional and some of my favourite music from the last year...

Most of my sounds are created on a Mac using, at present, Metasynth with Architect. My work stems from experimenting with an emphasis on originality. I'm fascinated with harmonic interplay, rhythmic content & abstract sequencing. With 'Opal Sun' I originally intended to do a more low-key longform series; something that unfolded slower than more recent collaborations & to maintain the same general mood throughout. As usual the pieces took on a life of their own. While working on this in...

I have a considerable amount of affection for the music of William Spivey - his ambient-infused melodic electronica is an utter delight and I am proud to release "Glimpse (waag_rel051)" on weareallghosts. With "Glimpse (waag_rel051)" Spivey has cooked up a luscious sound-banquet that features a number of flavours that will indulge all your senses and captivate your heart. Whilst I love his purely ambient pieces, I do appreciate it when Spivey adds beats, utilises sequencers...

I am a huge fan of William Spivey's music and when he came to me with this release I was like "YES!!! Now what was it that you wanted to ask?"  I was eager to hear where his music had evolved from our latest outing, "Glimpse (waag_rel051)", back in May, 2014; and I wasn't disappointed: "Air Flows Like Water (waag_rel146)" is a wonderfully meditative album that flows gently along with found sounds and bird song, ambient drones and vibrant synths, verbal prompts,...

Eraser Ears are on a roll and I am proud to present their latest album, "Vista 2 (waag_rel125).  "Vista 2" was recorded live at the Hybrid Festival, 21st September 2018; and features their wonderfully improvised, sonically powerful soundscapes that, in some way, remind me of  Tangerine Dream and REDSHIFT. As I wished before, for their first outing on WAAG, I wish again: to have been there ... at Vista ... soaking up the sounds as they were presented in real time. Who knows, it...

Due to ill health, what was intended as a fitting close to 2013 has now become an opening shot across the bow of 2014 ... and what a shot it is! When I put out the call for submissions for the end-of-year compilation, I never thought I would receive what I did: tracks from artists like Cousin Silas, Scott Lawlor, and Kevin Lyons - the very backbone of weareallghosts; new creations from Jack Hertz, and Mystified - pillars of the Ambient music community; an inspired remix from Wolfgang Merx of a...

I've always loved the "and friends" series from Cousin Silas ... it reads like a who's who of our particular musical niche. And one such collaboration that I've always looked for is between Cousin Silas and Head Joint. Head Joint are Victor Rivkin (who handles vocals, guitar, bass and a number of other instruments) and Michael Jobborn (with his Midi Keyboards, Hammond Organ, Guitars, Piano, and various other sound-making devices), and they make wondrously progressive instrumental...

Elegy [el-i-jee] noun, plural elegies. A mournful, melancholy, or plaintive poem, especially a funeral song or a lament for the dead. Tim Rowe’s suite of short, exquisitely mournful elegies are dedicated to all who mourn, all who have lost someone or something precious to them. Just as Henryk Gorecki’s third symphony brings considerable comfort to those in pain, my hope is that in some small way this suite will bring comfort too. Beginning where the first album left off, "The Three Imposters 2" is further evidence of the creative outpouring that occurred in July 2016 when Cousin Silas, Tim Jones & Kevin Lyons got together to watch obscure Hammer Horror films, eat pizza, drink too much coffee, and discuss their shared love for Arthur Machen's influential weird fiction.  Samples of found sounds, glitchy Radiophonic loops, washes of the most languid synths, an otherworldly choir, and Silas' trademark ambient...

After the warm reception of "Winterfylleth (waag_rel111)", I was eager to work with George L Smyth again and was delighted when he submitted this five-track album that was inspired by the heavenly bodies that easily define our concept of space: we look up in the night sky and can see the Bears or Orion's Belt, and in doing so we dream of what it would be like to be there. Good Friday was inspired by observing the power of crowds … how the spirit of a crowd can change a person … take over them … make them do things they wouldn't otherwise consider doing. This spirit … the spirit that can turn a respected school teacher into a looter grasping for a TV in a riot … was evident on the first Good Friday … a day when the crowd took over. "The Space Between The Leaves" - is the first in a series of longer-form drones called "The Space Between" ... this is an ongoing project from Scott and I hope to bring you further instalments in the future. "...The Leaves" is a darker, noisier drone that almost overwhelms but...

"Ancient Ocean (waag_rel071)" is a collaboration between versatile ambient musician Scott Lawlor and neo-Krautrock/kosmische act The Gateless Gate (or one half of it, Allister Thompson). Scott’s drones for this piece strongly suggested the ebb and flow of the ocean. However, making yet another oceanic ambient album wasn’t satisfying, so Allister came up with the concept of a primordial ocean, millions of years before the dawn of man. This opened up the door to all sorts of...

I am proud to present "Abstraction (waag_rel043)" ... 45 minutes of longform ambient joy. I have a lot of love for the music of both Scott Lawlor and Earlyguard, so you can imagine I was very quick to respond in the positive when I was approached about releasing a collaboration that they had in the works ... I didn't think it would be as good as "Abstraction" is. This is music for both the head and the heart, a late-night hit of somatic bliss that, in equal measure, inspires...

For me, it is wonderfully bittersweet to release "Scenes from Suburbia (waag_rel136)" by Cousin Silas & Candy L so close to  Candy's birthday ... I'm not sure how old she would have been if she had not lost her battle against cancer and, to be honest, it doesn't matter ... what matters is that the world and our wee community of DIY ambient musicians is considerably poorer for her not being with us. "Scenes from Suburbia (waag_rel136)" was created in collaboration...

Of all the music Cousin Silas has released, especially on weareallghosts, I am fondest of his longform pieces. I find his Dronescapes especially fascinating because they have a versatility about them: I listen to them at work when I need to find my flow and block out a busy, open-plan office; I listen to them on the train when I want to dig into a book and block out a busy carriage; I listen to them when I need to rest and block out the busyness of my home and/or my brain; They work for me on a...

Over the last couple of years we’ve feature a series of ambient pieces inspired by and intended for the period of Advent … four pieces for the four Sundays in the month or so before Christmas. This year it was Scott Lawyer’s turn but, due to work and other externalities outwith my control, I was unable to upload before now. Scott’s four pieces were recorded live when he played them, just over a year ago, on stillstream.fm . They are quietly meditative longform pieces that infuse the...

"Resonant Arcana (waag_rel147)" blurs lines between ambient, neoclassical, experimental electronic, and shifts effortlessly between them ... it explores a pensive and melancholic sound-world that balances orchestral instrumentation, dynamic synthesisers, and esoteric audio manipulation ... and differs from my first album with a darker tone and wider sonic palette. "Resonant Arcana (waag_rel147)" retains the same emphasis on harmonic and textural richness as  "Into Air...

Since 2008 I have been producing and releasing music under various names, most notably electronic music under the name Artificial Sun Project. In 2013 I ended this project, and out of it's ashes came Red Pools. This is my first double single of my new material, reflective of a new style of music, and a new direction. Two sides of mournful techno ... with swaying, claustrophobic atmospheres that gurgle and crackle in a rather delightful manner with murky thumping, quasi-wurlizer, piano...

Three tracks of caustic city-driven technoustica, built from the minutia of old session recordings, hauntological cassette tapes of unknown origin, recombinant soundscapes, extracted percussion, and the processed ghosts of sound objects inhabiting the spaces I come into contact with. Source material recorded, tracks composed and performed to create this record July 2013-Feb 2014. My sincere thanks to: Impossibility Knox (Gwilly Edmondez, Dario Lozano-Thornton, Elaine Cheng, Esme Baker, Meena...

Thanks to Thomas Mathie, Wolfgang Merx, Dario Lozano-Thornton, Phil Begg, Grace Smith, Nichola Stafford, Michael Bridgewater, Adam Denton, Mark Hadman, Crow Versus Crow, Stephen Ferrell, Roo Carpenter, Michael Hann, the twitter community, WAAG and others for all sorts of reasons. According to the dictionary, recrudescence means ... "breaking out afresh or into renewed activity; revival or reappearance in active existence" ... and it is a fitting albeit tongue-tying title for a collection of music by Cousin Silas that he himself has remixed, rearranged and revived.  Recrudescence means to reopen and make raw again as in to reopen a wound. I see this more as a potter remoulding their clay, reshaping it, reusing it as they see fit. Silas is the potter and his...

For our sophomore release on weareallghosts , we have something very special indeed... a collaboration between spoken word poet and soprano Rebekkah Hilgraves and ambient musician Cousin Silas... Rebekkah's Cousin Silas. "The devil came to me" comes in four parts... an initial longform piece entitled "Rachel (above adversity)" that sets the scene for "the Rachel suite" - 15 tracks with themes of defiance... of being in the presence of evil and of overcoming... the...

Oblique, the latest release by Matthew VandenBrook on weareallghosts, is a fully immersive and adventurous journey ... from the opening atmospherics of "An evolution of the path" to the closing piano of "The Transcience of Beautiful Things" ... the listener is bathed in exotic, otherworldly ambience that enthrals and engages.  VandenBrook's use of sound is remarkable ... I have always thought this but he really has confirmed it on Oblique ... the quirky notes and electronic...

I have a whole heap of love for Thomas Park aka Mystified and the music he creates: the drone he released on the 31st December, 2012; is a fantastic piece of music … as is the piece he contributed to our end-of-year compilation. He is a talented chap and I am delighted to have him as part of weareallghosts. And it is this latter piece - "Network" - which kicked off this four-track EP. It became the starting point for the music on "Ghosts That Dance (waag_rel018)". I was so...

I love long form drones. I have expressed this love previously when discussing "Stigma (waag_rel006)" by Earlyguard ( weareallghosts.bandcamp.com/album/stigma-waag-rel006 ). Longform drones give me space to think and to be within. I know this may sound a bit weird to some folk but it is my experience … longform drones are a very pleasant distraction from the hustle and bustle of daily life … they provide the opportunity to be immersed in sound for an extended period of time …...

What better way to start 2022 than with "Music For The Dark Days" ... an EP from the collaborative partnership of electronic musicians EISENLAGER and Sergio Mariani aka EISENLAGER MARIANI. "Music For The Dark Days" features four exceptionally beautiful ambient electronic tracks that expertly convey the dark days of winter ... the cold, biting wind and incessant, uncomfortable darkness ... the beating of your heart as move slowly, struggling with deep snow ... that sound of...

“Moirai (waag_rel058)” is the first release on weareallghosts from experimental electronic musician, Paul Randall aka Microvolt. It is a wonderful collection of delicate soundscapes with an intricacy that has captivated me since I first got to hear them a good few months ago. Paul Randall presents something beautiful with “Moirai (waag_rel058)”, something that fits nicely with the emerging waag ‘sound’ and yet broadens it too. This is my kind of experimental ambient: captivating and...

“Sound then Silence (waag_rel064)” from Matthew VandenBrook is a wonderfully inventive album that brings a new dimension of sound to weareallghosts, something uniquely expressive and engaging. “Sound then Silence (waag_rel064)” explores more electronic and IDM-related genres, and does so in a manner that doesn’t negate VandenBrook’s ambient, drone-influenced, origins. In fact, tracks 6, 7 and 9 - “Reincarnation”, “Metempsychosis” and the title track “Sound then Silence”...

Extropy … a noun … the theory that cultural and technological development will expand indefinitely and in an orderly progressive manner throughout the universe, the tendency of systems to grow more organised. I am proud to present a wonderfully atmospheric and very “sci-fi” (as my daughter described it) album from Matthew VandenBrook entitled “Extropy” … more ambient than his previous release, the marvellous “Sound Then Silence (waag_rel064)” release just over one year ago,...

I am deeply honoured to present "Without Sin" from Detroit based musician Matthew VandenBrook and am proud to welcome him to the weareallghosts community. "Without Sin" is a fitting piece to be released on Good Friday, 2014 ... and while each listener will make of it what they will ... I, for one, have received remarkable inspiration from this piece as I have walked my own, personal Lenten journey. It is a dark, brooding piece of longform ambient music that threatens to...

Mabinogi Taking it's title from the Medieval text, The Mabinogion (a loose translation of this being Juvenile Distractions), this work takes on non-narrative considerations about passing time, the joy of travel & landscape.  Based round film and field recordings made on location in Pembroke, South Wales, this adds three new "branches" to the original stories. Each bears a Welsh language name and are broadly linked to Earth, Water & Air.  In translation:  1- Taith Hir (Long...

waag_rel117 Leftovers. The tracks that make up this album were recorded during the week that Tim Jones & Kevin Lyons spent with Cousin Silas in deepest, darkest Yorkshire. That session, back in 2016, was a wonderful creative outpouring that spawned two albums celebrating Arthur Machen's influential weird fiction. The tracks were recorded at the same time but didn't seem to fit with the theme: they were a little too out there, a bit too noisy, slightly too space for the more earthy nature of...

I’ve spoken before of my love for weird fiction and the pleasure I have in pairing the writings of Lovecraft to deliciously “out there” music … with “Thirteen Things That Don’t Make Sense” is Kevin Lyons I now have a new addition to my collection. This is Kevin Lyons’ latest solo offering on weareallghosts, an album full of the kind of atmospheric ambient electronica that Lyons excels at and I just love to consume. It isn’t an album that can be easily described other than to...

Cousin Silas is my A&R man. He is always recommending new music to me and introducing me to some of the fabulously talent people he calls friends. Kevin Lyons is one such friend. I was bowled over when Kevin sent through the tracks that would later form the basis of "The Lost Room (waag_rel019)" , our 27th release on weareallghosts. The depth of expression contained within the 15 tracks simply stunned me … each track stood on its own merits as its own self-contained piece of...

I always delight in releasing Kevin Lyons' music. I have a real soft spot for his music and I'm not the only one, there are a number of others who really do appreciate his Berlin School-inspired take on ambient electronic music. Kevin Lyons' latest release on weareallghosts, entitled "Organised Vibrations", is a wonderfully progressive collection of tracks that take me, as the listener, on multiple journeys of discovery. From the Tangerine Dream flavoured opener, "Aum", to...
