The name UNATTRIBUTED is a play on words. The artist is a long-time advocate of Creative Commons licensing, which fundamentally incorporates the idea of attribution. The idea of numbering the titles of releases and tracks is derived from a series of releases in which artists are allowed to explore any style of music they want, free from the confines of their percieved identity. UNATTRIBUTED is a cross-style project that is currently focusing on ambient, abstract, experimental, drone, and...

When Colin Blake approached me with his idea for his C60 project I was intrigued. He was eager to create 30 minute slices of his particular blend of sci-fi ambient, slices that could easily fit on the side of a C60 cassette tape. When I heard the first cuts I was sold on the idea. These cuts became what you are now listening to: Side A and Side B of "Cones (waag_C60_01)". Think of these tracks in the same terms as you would a mixtape ... they are 30 minutes of continual, unbroken...

It is with great delight that I bring to you "Cosmic Oblivion (waag_rel133)" by James Hoehl and, in doing so, welcome him into the WAAG fold. James has been a keen supporter of weareallghosts for sometime now and I am over-the-moon with what he has created for his first release with us ... a five-track album of drifting, spacey, ambient drones that collectively speak of the vast ocean of stars that sits just beyond our horizon. Ironically, James wasn't sure there was an audience...

I believe in the power of music to inspire and to heal. That's a bit of a cheesy thing to say, I know, but I believe it to be true. When I set out on the weareallghosts journey, it wasn't to make money or to strike it big. No, it was to give something back to the DIY music community that has nourished me over the years ... to bring some happiness into an unhappy world ... to light the proverbial candle to shine out in the darkness. I think I have achieved that. So today, regardless of all the...

It has been a busy wee while of late and this week was no exception. When I’m tired I turn to the dronescapes of Cousin Silas - they give me respite, they provide a place to go when all I want to do is turn off the world for an hour and relax. The latest instalment in the dronescape series - the twenty-second instalment in fact - is a marvellous example of this. It’s rich, luscious tone is a balm to my weary soul. It engulfs me with the delightfully paradoxical feeling of the new familiar....

It is always good to try something new and "dronescape 001 (waag_drs001)" is very much 'a new thing' for two reasons: First off, it is Cousin Silas' first real attempt at a really longform ambient drone ... and Secondly, it marks the beginning of a new series for weareallghosts - the 'dronescape' series that is specifically designed for longform ambient drones of, or around, the 60 minute mark. I love longform drones and I know you do too from your warm reception of the work of...

H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y ! ! ! weareallghosts is one-year-old today and I am celebrating this fact by releasing the third instalment in the Dronescape series early. Cousin Silas, who is an instrumental part of waag, heartily agreed to release it early in celebration of this milestone. He also agreed to record a thirteenth instalment which is great news for ambient drone fans like me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do ... and thank you for being a key part in the ongoing success of...

Cousin Silas' dronescapes have become a remarkable consistent in my life. They are there for me when I need them … when I need to focus or, paradoxically, when I need to let my brain shut off ... when I am on the move or when I need to sit still. They are something I am very proud of and, as such, I am delighted to release the 5th instalment in the series … a series I am convinced is getting better with each step and each repeated listen. There is not much more I can say about this drone...

His ability to engage the listener in a fully immersive sonic environment truly amazes me. I have all his dronescapes on my iPhone and have been known to move from one to another when I am in need of extended periods concentration and/or escape. I have discovered a new pleasure ... lying in my hammock in my backgarden listening to Cousin Silas' dronescapes. I live in Scotland so I don't get many opportunities but when I do ... like I did today ... it was simply stunning. The 7th instalment in Silas' dronescapes takes the series forward ... it is 72 minutes of floaty, blissed-out, musical sunshine. It fitted perfectly with a lazy rest-filled day in the garden ... reading and recharging in the sun. I've never liked the tag 'chill out...

I recently met Cousin Silas for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I was taken by how genuinely lovely he was … a real down-to-earth chap with a wicked sense of humour … generous to a fault and a pleasure to be with. I say this because whilst I was down staying with him … he spoke of the Dronescape series and made particular mention of this instalment - Dronescape 010 (waag_drs010) - his tenth dronescape. He spoke of this being his best yet. Not in a bragging kind of way because he...

It has been just over a month since we released the previous 2 instalments of Cousin Silas' Dronescape series ... and I couldn't wait to bring another one to you. And what an instalment this is!!! The 13th Dronescape is a bold, upfront exploration of space and time through ambient sound. It is 70 minutes of sheer of unadulterated joy ... a truly immersive longform journey with an almost tangible sense of cinematic proportion ... and I, for one, love it. The Advent period is a very busy time for me and sometimes it feels like the run-up to Christmas is too much. I was recently asked what I get out of running a wee netlabel ... I replied almost immediately: I help bring beauty to this world. I'm not a musician. I wish I was but I am not. Neither am I an artist in the pen-and-paper / paint-and-canvas kind of way. Again, I wish I was but I am not. Whilst I am kind of handy with a camera and have a thing for arranging typefaces on images, the way I bring beauty to this world is to help musicians like Cousin Silas get their sounds out there. I don't believe...

May I start off with a big thanks to both Thomas Mathie and Cousin Silas for giving me the opportunity to write the liner notes for the 17th release of the Dronescape Series. That said, I'd like to talk about the "cancerous bubble" that began to grow as a result of this opportunity - an ego bubble, I would imagine. It began with a series of email conversation which eventually led to my thinking I might offer Cousin Silas a few ideas on his dronescapes! I hear you all now. "SAY...

George Carlin once said ... "Have you ever started a path? No one seems willing to do this. We don't mind using existing paths, but we rarely start new ones. Do it today. Start a path. Even if it doesn't lead anywhere." This saying resonates with me for a number of reasons, too many in fact for here & now. What I will say, however, is how much I respect Cousin Silas' Dronescape project and how, in creating his own path, he’s created something that a lot of people have gained...

Cousin Silas and I connected many years ago when I said some nice things about his work on Shaun Blezard's seminal 'Earth Monkey Productions' netlabel. Silas had released 'Geographics' and his first two Ballard Landscapes on EMP and I had picked them up. They were my kind of atmospheres: dark, eerie & powerfully emotive ... they conjured up desolate spaces and lands dotted with Cyclopean buildings before I had read Lovecraft and knew what a Cyclopean architecture was. "Great watery...

Twenty. Yes, twenty! This is the twentieth instalment in Cousin Silas' Dronescape series and it sees him exploring the darker recesses of ambient music. Clocking in at 72 minutes, this is a deeply immersive journey into the unknown. I have spoken before of the association I have with Silas' work and the author H.P. Lovecraft, with the Cthulu Mythos, in particular, really sticking with me. This Dronescape reminds me of the first Lovecraft story that I read: "The Nameless City". I read...

Welcome to the twenty-first dronescape from Cousin Silas, another post-70 minute piece from someone who I personally think is at the top of their game. Coming off the back of his first CD on weareallghosts, this dronescape provides a fitting rest. It is an open and spacious drone filled with wonder and the anticipation of the unknown. It is a delight. I hope you enjoy Dronescape 021 as much as I do. - Tx

A new year and a new Dronescape, Cousin Silas’ twenty-third to be exact … if you discount the mini-dronescape on “the sound of Silas”. When Cousin Silas sent the .wav file through he described his latest endeavour as rather dark … “’tis a bit dark, m’ lad” was his exact phrase. I have come to expect that when my favourite Cousin says “dark” he means wonderfully atmospheric, haunting soundscapes that thrill and engage me, the listener. Dronescape 023 is no exception. This...

Earlier today I watched a programme that explored sensory deprivation using a flotation tank. The idea of nothingness was an idea both compelling and frightening to the host: sixty minutes of nothing is a rather intimidating prospect … just you and your thoughts. I wonder if that’s what some people think about longform drones … that a post-sixty minute ambient soundscape is, in some way, a scary proposition. I don’t know. What I do know, however, is that I like to be alone with my...

Today is a significant day for me, it is my Wedding Anniversary. I am married to Olwyn and have been for the last 18 years. We have seen so much together. I guess when the one thing you crave is for some down time that when you get it, you cherish it. This dronescape, Cousin Silas’ twenty-ninth is nearly 80 minutes in length. Not everyone can write longform music. It's not just a case of repeating a phrase and stretching it out for over an hour to create your drone; you have to make it interesting, and engaging ... it has to grab the listener's attention and keep it ... and it has to, dare I say, entertaining! To make that kind of music take time and it takes talent ... and, most of all, it takes patience. I am so glad Cousin Silas has all three! weareallghosts are proud to present the thirty-sixth dronescape...

I am particularly fond of Cousin Silas' longform pieces. Whether it is his dronescapes or the rerelease of Owlers Wood, Cousin Silas knows how to make longform music that is both interesting and engaging rather than monotonous and dull. He has raised the bar, at least for me, and graciously keeps feeding what is developing into an insatiable hunger for more. “Swirl (waag_rel082)” is his latest longform creation, one that explores the vastness of space and time within its 78 minute duration....

Each track on Twang Eight is an improvisation on guitar recorded live in one-take. No edits or overdubs, just one man and his guitar pushing the boundaries of sound. And I cannot get enough! From the opening track, "Movements Of A Celestial Nature", with its otherworldly choir and oppressive dark ambient air through to the spacious, light-filled "Summer Sunrise" with its sustained guitar, this is an album that both surprises and delights the dedicated listener. I’m a huge fan of David Gerard’s music and to have a 15 minute piece from him on weareallghosts is a personal delight. “Ghosts we all are (waag_sng007)” is his personal tribute to waag … he wrote it especially for my wee label and the community we've built around it ... and I will always be indebted to him for that. It is a vibrant piece that has a distinct ebb and flow, a rhythm that is wonderfully immersive and rather hypnotic. I love this piece and hope David will be back with...

This is the second in our Dronescape series ... and the second of 12 drones planned from Cousin Silas. Cousin Silas has created another longform piece that I find deeply atmospheric and all-encompassing ... a piece that allows me to switch off from the busyness of the world and focus on whatever it is I am doing ... in the moment. I think that's the key for me ... the key to why I love these pieces so much ... they give me a sense of the moment. Time stops and I just am. I don't need to worry...

Cousin Silas' Dronescapes bring me considerable solace and the fifteenth instalment could not have come at a more necessary time. As some of you may know, I have contracted pertussis (whooping cough) and have been 'house bound' since before Christmas. During this time I have come to appreciate the healing qualities of music: it relaxes ... it aids focus and recuperation ... and, more importantly, it inspires. Dronescape 015 has been a blessing to me ... aiding my painfully slow recovery ... and...

It's been a ridiculously long time since the last Dronescape ... I guess I don't want them to end and am unconsciously stretching them out so they'll last longer. There is something magical about Cousin Silas' latest dronescape that makes me think of Christmas and I'm not entirely sure I can explain it. There is an expansive quality about the piece: an openness and a lightness that makes me think of walking in freshly fallen snow, basking in that special morning light that we only see when the sun gently reflects on the white powder ... there is a quietness to this moment too, a peaceful muffled stillness ... just the crunch of your feet as you slowly...

Earlier in the year, August to be exact, I had the privilege of spending a few days in Fife, Scotland; As we drove to our digs in a farmhouse near Glenrothes, we decided to stop off in the beautiful village of Culross for a picnic lunch. The rain that day did not stop but that didn't deter us from exploring the village. I love the music that Earlyguard produces and I was delighted that he agreed to create an exclusive long-form drone for my netlabel. 'Stigma' is a 45 minute piece… a single track that is the antithesis of everything within current 'popular' music. Earlyguard isn't about the quick hit or the catchy riff. He is far more than that. He creates space… space beyond time. He shapes his soundscapes in such a manner that the listener becomes fully immersed in his all-encompassing drones. It is...

A few months back, Wolfgang Gsell, ambient artist extraordinare and radio show host ( www.modul303.com ), posted a call for music for his upcoming themed shows. At first, I planned to just do a series of pieces for the shows. Then, I realized that this was a wonderful opportunity to kick-start some collaborations so I created a set of base tracks reflecting the themes listed by Wolfgang: Winter, Holy and Silent, Memories, Weightless, and Mountains. Some wonderful ambient composers agreed to...

According to Ivan Ganza, "LV426 (waag_rel041)" documents the lonely journey to the far off system of LV426 through six utterly delightful longish-form ambient drones. I've had this album for a wee while now ... to be honest, longer than I should have ... this should have been out for others to hear far, far sooner. "LV426 (waag_rel041)" is an absolute delight to me, one for the head as well as the heart. The kind of hypnotic sci-fi drone that I lap up, one that works on its...

I am deeply honoured to present "Without Sin" from Detroit based musician Matthew VandenBrook and am proud to welcome him to the weareallghosts community. "Without Sin" is a fitting piece to be released on Good Friday, 2014 ... and while each listener will make of it what they will ... I, for one, have received remarkable inspiration from this piece as I have walked my own, personal Lenten journey. It is a dark, brooding piece of longform ambient music that threatens to...

I love long form drones. I have expressed this love previously when discussing "Stigma (waag_rel006)" by Earlyguard ( weareallghosts.bandcamp.com/album/stigma-waag-rel006 ). Longform drones give me space to think and to be within. I know this may sound a bit weird to some folk but it is my experience … longform drones are a very pleasant distraction from the hustle and bustle of daily life … they provide the opportunity to be immersed in sound for an extended period of time …...

Oblique, the latest release by Matthew VandenBrook on weareallghosts, is a fully immersive and adventurous journey ... from the opening atmospherics of "An evolution of the path" to the closing piano of "The Transcience of Beautiful Things" ... the listener is bathed in exotic, otherworldly ambience that enthrals and engages. VandenBrook's use of sound is remarkable ... I have always thought this but he really has confirmed it on Oblique ... the quirky notes and electronic...

According to the dictionary, recrudescence means ... "breaking out afresh or into renewed activity; revival or reappearance in active existence" ... and it is a fitting albeit tongue-tying title for a collection of music by Cousin Silas that he himself has remixed, rearranged and revived. Recrudescence means to reopen and make raw again as in to reopen a wound. I see this more as a potter remoulding their clay, reshaping it, reusing it as they see fit. Silas is the potter and his...

I am proud to present "Abstraction (waag_rel043)" ... 45 minutes of longform ambient joy. I have a lot of love for the music of both Scott Lawlor and Earlyguard, so you can imagine I was very quick to respond in the positive when I was approached about releasing a collaboration that they had in the works ... I didn't think it would be as good as "Abstraction" is. This is music for both the head and the heart, a late-night hit of somatic bliss that, in equal measure, inspires...

"Ancient Ocean (waag_rel071)" is a collaboration between versatile ambient musician Scott Lawlor and neo-Krautrock/kosmische act The Gateless Gate (or one half of it, Allister Thompson). Scott’s drones for this piece strongly suggested the ebb and flow of the ocean. However, making yet another oceanic ambient album wasn’t satisfying, so Allister came up with the concept of a primordial ocean, millions of years before the dawn of man. This opened up the door to all sorts of...

Scott is a tremendous supporter of weareallghosts, playing our music on his show on stillstream. He is part of the waag familia and I am proud to present two longish ambient drones from him. "The Space Between The Leaves" - is the first in a series of longer-form drones called "The Space Between" ... this is an ongoing project from Scott and I hope to bring you further instalments in the future. "...The Leaves" is a darker, noisier drone that almost overwhelms but...

I have a lot of love for Scott Lawlor's music and was delighted to be approached by him to release his 'drone.excursion' series of longform drones. Inspired by the work of Cousin Silas, Lawlor is going on his own journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes ... and I am proud to support him in this endeavour. drone.excursion.001 (waag_dex001) aka 'the choral drone' is an intense vocal-orientated piece that reminds me of György Ligeti's "Atmospheres", a piece that is famous for being...

In case you missed it last month ... Scott Lawlor has been inspired by the work of Cousin Silas and is going on his own journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes. He intends to producing a series of these drone.excursion longform pieces and I am proud to support him with this endeavour. drone.excursion.002 (waag_dex002) aka 'Into the Industrial Complex' is a subtler piece ... less dissonant than the first drone.excursion whilst still retaining the sense of movement that was conveyed by it's...

Scott Lawlor continues on his journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes with the third in his drone.excursion series. drone.excursion.003 (waag_dex003) aka 'uncertainty of suspense' is a fluid piece ... one that has a sense of movement while retaining an impression of artifice and of the man-made, like it's predecessor. drone.excursion.003 (waag_dex003) is another delightful longform drone from Scott and I really do hope you will enjoy it as much as I have ... I found it a worthwhile journey...

Sometimes only a longform ambient drone will do. This is a thought that I regularly have when I need to be in *the* zone … the special place that I visit when I need to get deep and concentrate. I am blessed at weareallghosts to have so many options for a soundtrack to this special place … and I am proud to add - "like a pelican of the wilderness" from Scott Lawlor - to my arsenal. It is an utterly beautiful piece … full of light. It is the soundscape for a truly open space....

Scott Lawlor continues on his journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes with the fourth in his drone.excursion series. drone.excursion.004 (waag_dex004) aka 'harmonic convergence' is a delightful drone that builds in significance in the listener's consciousness. There is a slow evolution in the chords used over the 72 minute duration that together feeds the mind and provides space for contemplation and flow. drone.excursion.004 (waag_dex004) is another enjoyable longform drone from Scott and I...

I hope you enjoyed last week's instalment in Scott Lawlor's ongoing journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes? Due to some movement in the waag schedule, I am proud to present drone.excursion.005 (waag_dex005) aka 'quiet passage' for your listening please. Scott's 5th drone in his drone.excursion series is another enjoyable longform drone, one that brings a degree of subtly to the table. This is a low key, melancholic soundscape ... one for late nights or for moments of deep contemplation. I...

“Let no two drones be alike must be Scott's motto....at least thus far. Each drone excursion is markedly different from all others.” So says Brian Bourassa in a comment on Bandcamp. I cannot agree more and with the belated 6th instalment in his drone.excursion series, Scott Lawlor proves, if proof be really needed, this point. “Unquiet Spirits Crossing the Rubicon” is a deeply immersive, full-on longform piece; one that paints mind-pictures of wide, desolate spaces interspersed with the...

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome Simon Slator to the weareallghosts fold, who joins us with a belter of a longform ambient release entitled "Philharmony (waag_rel053)". "Philharmony" is a derived word that originates from the adjective "Philmarmonic" which means to be fond of or devoted to music ... and is an apt descriptor for weareallghosts, for Simon and for me ... we love music and share an ongoing, active love for music in all its forms albeit with a...

When you picture the scene, you tend to think of the company of angels singing like a classical choir – eclipsing the...

Following on from where Spero left off, the Messiah’s prophesied arrival is imminent: As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s salvation.’” – Luke 3: 4-6 “Regnum Caelorum” is Latin for...

“Spero (waag_aa001_1-4)” is the first of four pieces by Simon Slator that are designed for the season of Advent. The four soundscapes that make up this first “Ambient Advent” collection are intended for contemplation and meditation during this busy period. Advent is synonymous with new beginnings, with the commencement or start of new things. Regardless of how you celebrate this holiday period, my wish is that the music Simon Slator has created will bring something new to you. This...

I've always loved the "and friends" series from Cousin Silas ... it reads like a who's who of our particular musical niche. And one such collaboration that I've always looked for is between Cousin Silas and Head Joint. Head Joint are Victor Rivkin (who handles vocals, guitar, bass and a number of other instruments) and Michael Jobborn (with his Midi Keyboards, Hammond Organ, Guitars, Piano, and various other sound-making devices), and they make wondrously progressive instrumental...
