Today is a significant day for me, it is my Wedding Anniversary. I am married to Olwyn and have been for the last 18 years. We have seen so much together. I guess it is true what’s said: time does fly when you are having fun. Time is wonderful concept, isn’t it? it flies when we enjoy ourselves and drags when we don’t. Days, weeks, months, years; they all move so quickly and just like any chocolate bar, we don’t get as much now as we used to. That’s why I love Cousin Silas’...

This is the second in our Dronescape series ... and the second of 12 drones planned from Cousin Silas. Cousin Silas has created another longform piece that I find deeply atmospheric and all-encompassing ... a piece that allows me to switch off from the busyness of the world and focus on whatever it is I am doing ... in the moment. I think that's the key for me ... the key to why I love these pieces so much ... they give me a sense of the moment. Time stops and I just am. I don't need to worry...

On the 8th instalment of the Dronescape series, Brian Bourassa said this ... "If your a "Dronie," then Cousin Silas's Drone series should be topping your list. I'd invite you to follow the progression from "Dronescape 001 through Dronescape 008" and beyond." I couldn't have put it better myself! Thanks Brian. For the 9th Dronescape ... Cousin Silas has really pulled out all the stops ... creating an utterly engaging longform piece that is exceptionally expansive...

It has been a wee while since we had a dronescape from Cousin Silas, partly because he’s been so busy releasing collaborations and albums on other netlabels. I’ve spoken before about my excitement when I get a dropbox link sent to me … I guess I’m as big a fan as anyone of Dave’s work and still get the feels when I hear a new dronescape from him. Dronescape 033 is an absolute delight: it is the kind of music you want to hear of an lazy Sunday afternoon or a warm bubblebath, music that...

Cousin Silas’ 34th dronescape is another exceptional longform ambient soundscape. At 1 second under 73 minutes, it is an epic piece of ambience … one the draws you in and encourages to take a trip of profound personal discovery. Where it will take you, I don’t know … but it takes me to a place where I am truly present, providing me with focus for the here and now, helping me find my flow. Dronescape 034 drowns out the distractions of a very busy, demanding world … and let’s me just...

As we move into 2017 I would like to give you a taste of things to come from weareallghosts … coming up over the next few days we’ll have a remix album from Cousin Silas, an expressive release from Matthew VandenBrook, a retrospective of the musician Chris Newman aka Delicate Apparatus, and a rereleased album from Coloured Lines. We also have this, the 35th dronescape from Cousin Silas. Cousin Silas has promised 50 dronescapes and 2017 will see us get closer to that goal … a bittersweet...

George Carlin once said ... "Have you ever started a path? No one seems willing to do this. We don't mind using existing paths, but we rarely start new ones. Do it today. Start a path. Even if it doesn't lead anywhere." This saying resonates with me for a number of reasons, too many in fact for here & now. What I will say, however, is how much I respect Cousin Silas' Dronescape project and how, in creating his own path, he’s created something that a lot of people have gained...

I've found myself fascinated with sleep lately, trying as I might to catch a meaningful and solid seven hours. I'm nearly there with my average over the last 28 days coming in a 6 hours and 55 minutes. There has been a lot of emphasis on sleep, in music terms, recently too ... Max Richter's epic "Sleep" album, Hammock's "Songs for sleep" playlist on Spotify, and Sigur Ros presents Liminal Sleep ... are all music that I have listened to and gleefully consumed. I would,...

A new year and a new Dronescape, Cousin Silas’ twenty-third to be exact … if you discount the mini-dronescape on “the sound of Silas”. When Cousin Silas sent the .wav file through he described his latest endeavour as rather dark … “’tis a bit dark, m’ lad” was his exact phrase. I have come to expect that when my favourite Cousin says “dark” he means wonderfully atmospheric, haunting soundscapes that thrill and engage me, the listener. Dronescape 023 is no exception. This...

I think it was the original "Ballard Landscapes" on Shaun Blezard's seminal Earth Monkey Productions imprint that introduced me to the rabbit hole that is Cousin Silas' music. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since those days and my relationship with our Cousin Dave has flourished and developed in so many ways that I could never have foreseen. In short, I am proud to call him a friend and know, with absolute certainty, that weareallghosts would not be what it is without his...

Featuring 13 tracks from the original release and 2 further "bonus" tracks for this release, Twang Four is another fine continuation of and addition to the Twang series. From the opening track - "Inside The Pink Vortex" - through to the final track - "The Bells On Satellite 7" - this is a wonderful...

There are such artists that quietly create and share their works and perhaps never really surface in the wild wild world of netlabel artists. And to a certain point Cousin Silas is one of the best kept secrets under the radar, born and raised in the Colne valley of West Yorkshire, UK. He first released in 2001 commercially through Fflintcentral but quickly found the world of creative commons in 2005 with 4 releases to date on Earth Monkey productions, 4 releases on Earthrid and wandering...

Cooperation is defined as "an act or instance of working or acting together for a common purpose or benefit." Silas & Friends volume 1 (waag_rel015) is a prime example of cooperation in action. Cousin Silas has cooperated with some of the best artists in the ambient genre - Phillip Wilkerson, Bing Satellites, emptywhale, Chris Lynn, Gareth Jones, and Daniel Prendiville - to make some wondrous ambient soundscapes. Each soundscape is unique to the individual partnership, a product...

Cousin Silas' dronescapes have really grown from strength to strength ... developing into something of 'must have' recording for me. I tend to listen to at least one a day and love the headspace they give me. I know I am not alone ... and really appreciate all the comments I receive when one is released. I also value the support that some in the WAAG community provided and do not take it for granted. So this weekend we are going to put out not one ... but TWO dronescapes - 011 and 012. I...

It's been a ridiculously long time since the last Dronescape ... I guess I don't want them to end and am unconsciously stretching them out so they'll last longer. These post-sixty minute longform pieces have become such an important part of my life, I just don't want the series to stop. I know the Dronescapes have built up a bit of a following and to everyone who has or will buy them, I do promise to release the remaining pieces more often. But when you hear Cousin Silas' forty-first...

This is Cousin Silas' 200th release. Not with weareallghosts, although we do have a good share of those 3 digits, but in total. 200 releases. 200 pieces of music brought into this world for folks like you and me to enjoy. I am both astounded by this and grateful that "Unlimited Boundaries (waag_rel114)" found a home with waag. "Unlimited Boundaries (waag_rel114)" is a wonderfully peaceful, 60 minute long, electronic piece in the Berlin School style of Virgin Records-era...

Cousin Silas' music is a familiar constant in my life. His albums hold a place in my heart along with my favourite books and films; and yet I still get excited when I receive an album from him, eagerly awaiting what new direction he has taken or sound he has returned to. Cousin Silas (waag_rel106) is a fabulous return to the ambient soundscapes of his early weareallghosts releases ... there is something of "The Path Between The Trees (waag_rel001)" in this self-titled release ... a...

Owlers Wood is one of my favourite longform ambient electronic pieces from Cousin Silas. It was released on the now sadly defunct netlabel Unsheep and has been unfairly languishing in obscurity until now … both Cousin Silas and I have fond memories of the piece and neither of us wanted to see the piece disappear so the decision was taken to re-release it on weareallghosts. It is an amazing piece, almost 80 minutes in length yet totally engaging. It is delicate and thoughtful, reminiscent (to...

Just one man and his extensive collection of guitars ... pushing the boundaries of atmospheric sound. Twang Two ... or Twang! Too ... or waag_rrl008 ... however you want to call it deserves another listen. It didn't deserve to be abandoned as it was and I, for one, am glad to give it a home on waag, albeit slightly...

Sucu Music’s 2016 begins with the third release by Cousin Silas, whose trademark guitar-laden form of ambient and soundscapes is here to delight our ears and souls alike. The overall tone of “A Moment Lost” – this is the title of the new album – is less somber than in the previous works, and, apart from the closing track, the not-too-long playing time of the tracks allows the listener to sort of breathe between one aerial trip and another. The album opens with the title track....

“Weaving Portraits” is Cousin Silas’s second work with Sucu Music and, by happy coincidence, also the release marking the first anniversary of the label. There couldn’t have been a better way to celebrate our first birthday than by releasing a beautiful work of meditative music entirely created by textures of keyboards and delicate touches of electric guitar. No rhythm, no percussion, nothing that might encompass this music into a closed system. Cousin Silas’s is music for open...

Cousin Silas' dronescapes have become a remarkable consistent in my life. They are there for me when I need them … when I need to focus or, paradoxically, when I need to let my brain shut off ... when I am on the move or when I need to sit still. They are something I am very proud of and, as such, I am delighted to release the 5th instalment in the series … a series I am convinced is getting better with each step and each repeated listen. There is not much more I can say about this drone...

Twenty. Yes, twenty! This is the twentieth instalment in Cousin Silas' Dronescape series and it sees him exploring the darker recesses of ambient music. Clocking in at 72 minutes, this is a deeply immersive journey into the unknown. I have spoken before of the association I have with Silas' work and the author H.P. Lovecraft, with the Cthulu Mythos, in particular, really sticking with me. This Dronescape reminds me of the first Lovecraft story that I read: "The Nameless City". I read...

It has been a busy wee while of late and this week was no exception. When I’m tired I turn to the dronescapes of Cousin Silas - they give me respite, they provide a place to go when all I want to do is turn off the world for an hour and relax. The latest instalment in the dronescape series - the twenty-second instalment in fact - is a marvellous example of this. It’s rich, luscious tone is a balm to my weary soul. It engulfs me with the delightfully paradoxical feeling of the new familiar....

Into The Dark | volume ii (waag_rel045)' is the second in a trilogy of dark, atmospheric, and rather sinister sounding ambient albums from my dear friend and everyone's favourite hoarder of electric guitars, Cousin Silas. In keeping with the first volume (waag_rel038), this is an album where Cousin Silas goes back to his darker ambient roots. It continues down the deliciously dark and deeply atmospheric rabbit-hole that waag_rel038 started down ... back before Christmas. Six tracks of longish...

I recently met Cousin Silas for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I was taken by how genuinely lovely he was … a real down-to-earth chap with a wicked sense of humour … generous to a fault and a pleasure to be with. I say this because whilst I was down staying with him … he spoke of the Dronescape series and made particular mention of this instalment - Dronescape 010 (waag_drs010) - his tenth dronescape. He spoke of this being his best yet. Not in a bragging kind of way because he...

Cousin Silas’ thirty-second dronescape is dedicated to the memory of Dame Zaha Hadid, the exceptional British architect who died recently. According to Wikipedia, Hadid liberated architectural geometry with the creation of highly expressive, sweeping fluid forms of multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry that evoke the chaos and flux of modern life. I marvel at Hadid’s creations, especially the Riverside Museum in Glasgow (pictured on the album cover) … she was a true...

May I start off with a big thanks to both Thomas Mathie and Cousin Silas for giving me the opportunity to write the liner notes for the 17th release of the Dronescape Series. That said, I'd like to talk about the "cancerous bubble" that began to grow as a result of this opportunity - an ego bubble, I would imagine. It began with a series of email conversation which eventually led to my thinking I might offer Cousin Silas a few ideas on his dronescapes! I hear you all now. "SAY...

Earlier in the year, August to be exact, I had the privilege of spending a few days in Fife, Scotland; As we drove to our digs in a farmhouse near Glenrothes, we decided to stop off in the beautiful village of Culross for a picnic lunch. The rain that day did not stop but that didn't deter us from exploring the village. There is something magical about Cousin Silas' latest dronescape that makes me think of Christmas and I'm not entirely sure I can explain it. There is an expansive quality about the piece: an openness and a lightness that makes me think of walking in freshly fallen snow, basking in that special morning light that we only see when the sun gently reflects on the white powder ... there is a quietness to this moment too, a peaceful muffled stillness ... just the crunch of your feet as you slowly...

From the opening track -...

The seventh TWANG brings Cousin Silas' series of atmospheric ambient and experimental soundscapes, each recorded in a single take with no overdubs or edits, back into the deepest, darkest realms of space and place. Once more featuring 14 tracks from the original release and 2 further "bonus" tracks for this release, Twang Seven is another exemplary continuation of and addition to the Twang series. From the opening track - "The Crease in Time" - through to the final track -...
