The main purpose of conducting this research study is to identify the impact of perceived crowding on emotional responses of the shoppers and identify the moderating effect of time of the day on the relationship between perceived crowding and emotional responses. And fast food industry in Sri Lanka has been taken as the research base to identify the fast food consumers’ perception on the crowding. Moreover, perceived crowding observed as a major concern for shoppers as well as a challenge for...

This paper presents a novel method for solving multi-objective Volt/Var control of radial distribution system. The Volt/Var control is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem which consists of the following objectives: minimization of real power loss, minimization of total voltage deviation and minimization of number of OLTC’s and capacitor operation and voltage fluctuations for a day-ahead in Distribution system. The Proposed MOPSO Algorithm is used to find the optimal settings...

Recognizing the contradictory or inconclusive findings on class size in English, this booklet provides a summary and analysis of existing class size research and describes the kinds of research that would shed new light on the question of class size and secondary English. The first section contains the report of the Task Force on Class Size and Workload in Secondary English Instruction for the Executive Committee of the National Council of Teachers of English. It describes charges given to the...

A detailed assessment of the average class size in Massachusetts public schools is provided in this report, which includes the means and ranges of average class size and a description of class size across grade levels, subject area, and community type. Data were collected from the Chapter 188 Individual School Report (1987-88), an annual survey of Massachusetts public schools conducted by the State Department of Education. Section 1 provides background information on research related to class...

Year-round schooling is a positive alternative for the Woodburn School District, a district experiencing an overcrowding problem. The year-round education system has not yet been implemented in Woodburn, but the proposal is getting serious attention by administrators, teachers, and parents. The Utah Foundation Research Report identifies 10 positive aspects of year-round schools. Examples of positive effects range from reduced learning loss following vacations to improved student behavior. The...

Year-round schools operate 12 months rather than the traditional 9- or 10-month schedule. On a multitrack year-round schedule, attendance is staggered so that some students are on vacation while others attend school the usual number of days (about 180). Year-round schools can usually accommodate more students and offer an alternative to overcrowding. Recent studies suggest that year-round schools do not improve education. Shifting days of attendance does not address problems such as lack of...

The purpose of this guide is to inform parents, advocates, and school personnel about existing laws and resources available to ensure that every child and every school employee has an environmentally safe and healthy school that is clean and in good repair. An environmentally safe and healthy school is one of the principles adopted by the New York State Board of Regents; others are that schools should be role models of environmentally responsible behavior and that public officials should be...

This paper examines crowding-out effects and the labour market match for the tertiary educated in 26 OECD countries, using attainment data and data on labour market outcomes from Education at a Glance 2006. A first-difference approach is applied on a three-period, pooled country-panel to examine the effects of changes in tertiary attainment levels against changes in labour market outcomes over time. The policy questions in this paper focus on the potential negative short-term effects that...

The Capsule Parachute Assembly System (CPAS) has undergone the transition from modeling a skipped stage event using a simulation that treats a cluster of parachutes as a single composite canopy to the capability of simulating each parachute individually. This capability along with data obtained from skipped stage flight tests has been crucial in modeling the behavior of a skipping canopy as well as the crowding effect on non-skipping ("lagging") neighbors. For the finite mass...

Research indicates that the relationship between class size and instructional effectiveness depends on a multitude of related variables, such as age level of students, subject matter taught, and instructional methods used. Recent statistical syntheses of this research reveal that the instructional benefits of smaller classes are most significant for classes with under 20 students; between 25 and 40 students, class size has little overall effect on educational quality.
