The modeling of damped signals as the impulse response of a pole-zero system is considered for a broad range of pole-zero modeling algorithms. The goal is to obtain the best possible fit between the model impulse response and the modeled signal. Prony's method, the least squares modified Yule-Walker equations (LSMYWE), iterative prefiltering, and the Akakie maximum likelihood estimator are compared on known test sequences for a variety of model degrading situations (e.g., additive noise) to...

This thesis explores the possibility of power beaming from terrestrial sites to orbiting spacecraft. Solar cell annealing to repair radiation damaged cells and power augmentation for satellites that are battery limited are two of the possible uses for power beaming. Through modeling and simulation a more complete understanding of the expected system response was obtained. A virtual wafer fabrication tool (VWFT) called Silvaco ATLAS was used to simulate a previously optimized InGaP/GaAs/Ge...

Geoffrion's structured modeling provides a very promising framework for the development of future model management systems (MMS) . This thesis presents a prototype that converts a mathematical representation of simple LP models to Geoffrion's structured modeling representations. The general procedures presented could be extended to convert an LP model represented in any precisely defined mathematical language. This would allow the development of integrated modeling environments based upon the...

In this Grasshopper video, we will create a parametric truss system by generating and manipulating components and instantiating them onto a lofted geometry. We will start by creating our components from a surface using such features as List Items and Offset. From there, we will continue by subdividing a lofted geometry and then instantiate our parametric components across that surface, creating a parameterized truss system.

Soil erosion is recognized as one main reason for soil degradation in West Africa. However, predictions on the impact of climate change on soil erosion are rare for most West African countries including Burkina Faso. This study assesses the impact of climate change on water resources and soil erosion in a small catchment (126 km 2 ) in southwestern Burkina Faso. Climate data from an ensemble of six regional (RCM) and global (GCM) climate models were used to run the physically based spatially...

This thesis develops an iterative algorithm for the design of ARMA models of signals in the time domain. The algorithm is based on optimization techniques, particularly a gradient technique known as the restricted step method is used. The new algorithm is called the iterative Prony method, and the results obtained using this new method are compared to those obtained using the iterative prefiltering algorithm. The thesis shows that the performance of the iterative Prony method is in most of the...

In this study, the author develops a MATLAB simulation of area search with acoustic sensors modeled by the Poisson Scan model and the Lambda-Sigma (A-0) model. Detection time results are compared to those given by the much simpler Random Search formula. Random Search was found to closely approximate the more complex models if detection range was selected correctly. Guidelines for selecting the Random Search detection range were developed.

The Marine Corps' Maritime Prepositioning Force (MPF) marries fly-in troops to their gear in an expeditionary environment. The arrival and assembly operation underneath this larger umbrella of MPF Operations proves itself a somewhat chaotic, definitively complex and dynamic logistics operation. From the moment the offload of the ship or ships begins when equipment and rolling stock exit the ships, until it ends as using units sign for their intended equipment, all personnel involved in this...
