Solar photovoltaics (PV) manufacturing has experienced dramatic worldwide growth in recent years, enabling a reduction in module costs, and a higher adoption of these technologies. Continued sustainable price reductions, however, require strategies focused in further technological innovation, minimization of capital expenditures, and optimization of supply chain flows. We present a framework: Techno-economic Integrated Tool For Tariff And Transportation (TIT-4-TAT), that enables the study of...

Advancements in the field of energy are among priorities of modern-day research. Most of the modern studies concern particularly on renewable energy resources especially that of Solar Energy to meet the energy demand of the future energy markets. Solar energy is one of the richest sources of nature, but nvolvement of environmental effects readily affects the overall performance of the Photovoltaic Panel. This paper highlights the importance of the solar energy, techniques and comparison of...

Energy security is a critical facet of installation energy management, which is a key focus of a base’s Public Works Officer and Energy Manager. Providing full-time power to critical infrastructure loads on a base or facility during commercial grid disruptions is the definition of true energy security. Determining the most stable and efficient source of energy and means of storing the installation’s power, whether it be renewable or not, is a key concern. For solar renewable energy, the...

Distributed solar photovoltaic systems are considered an important renewable energy source for meeting renewable energy targets and mitigating climate change. In several markets, emerging firms have established new business models to offer residential customers solar panel systems. In California, the third-party ownership business model has been successfully established during the last decade, and is currently spreading to other markets. Through a longitudinal case study, this paper explores...

Recent developments in carbon nanotube technology have allowed for semi-transparent electrodes to be created which can possibly improve the efficiency of solar cells. A method for simulating the use of semi-transparent carbon nanotube networks as a charge collector for solar cells in Silvaco ATLAS software is presented in this thesis. Semi-transparent carbon nanotube networks allow for a greater area of charge collection on the surface of solar cells as well as a lower resistance path for...

Energy for society is an important element globally. Policy discussions in relation to climate change, suggest a transition from fossil-carbon-based systems to those based primarily upon renewable sources. The authors of this paper focused on a technical approach that can help to make that transition, namely pilot photovoltaic net metering installation for a business-residential entity in Slovenia, including its environmental perspectives. Results of the pilot photovoltaic net metering system...

As conventional fossil fuel reserves shrink and the danger of climate change prevailing, the need for alternative energy sources is unparalleled. A smart approach to compensate the dependence on electricity generated by burning fossil fuels is through the power generation using grid connected PV system. Partial Shading on PV array affects the quantity of the output power in photovoltaic (PV) systems. To extract maximum power from PV under variable irradiance, variable temperature and partial...

Vulnerability and unknowns are characteristic in all military missions. With an end goal to enhance situational awareness and provide the military unit an advantage, small unmanned aerial systems (SUAS) have been utilized to provide surveillance and reconnaissance information. A noteworthy restriction of SUAS is the constrained flight endurance due to their limited onboard battery capacity. Currently, most military SUAS are dependent on their onboard battery supply, which limits flight time to...

Reducing the total emissions of energy generation systems is a pragmatic approach for limiting the environmental pollution and associated climate change problems. Socio economic activities in the 21st century is highly determined by the energy generation mediums, particularly the renewable resources, across the world. Therefore, a thorough investigation into the technologies used in harnessing these energy generation mediums should contribute to their further advancement. Concentrated Solar...

With the increasingly growing number of solar energy sites, the need for better and faster fault detection techniques becomes more pressing. Using IR imaging is reliable and effective but scanning thousands or even hundreds of thousands of PV modules in mega sites quickly turns to be a time consuming and tedious task. To save on the spent effort and time digital image processing techniques can be introduced into the inspection process to help identify and annotate defects in the thermal footage...

Identifying foreground objects in an image is one of the most common operations used in image processing. In this work, Mask R CNN algorithm is used to identify solar photovoltaic PV panels in aerial images and create a mask that can be used to remove the background from the images. This allows processing the PV panels separately. Using ML to solve this problem can generate more accurate results in comparison to more traditional image processing techniques like using edge detection or Gaussian...

In recent years, solar PV power generation has seen a rapid growth due to environmental benefits and zero fuel costs. In Malaysia, due to its location near the equator, makes solar energy the most utilized renewable energy resources. Unlike conventional power generation, solar energy is considered as uncertain generation sources which will cause unstable energy supplied. The uncertainty of solar resource needs to be managed for the planning of the PV system to produce its maximum power. The...

Decreasing prices of photovoltaics (PV) and Lithium-ion batteries are creating a significant momentum for off-grid Zero Energy Buildings (ZEBs). In literature, most researchers have focused on grid-connected ZEBs built on site. This literature review is written with factory-made off-grid ZEBs in mind. High investment costs, poor construction quality and problems to achieve ZEB in real operation are three challenges that ZEB buildings currently face. This article discusses how automated mass...

Flexible Solar Panels are ultra-light. With a tube frame (from electro installation plastic tubes) the panel becomes handy. The tubes need to be cut for this application to insert the panel's borders. One piece contains 4 corners and a common stand. No supporting structure needed, supporting structure already included to print it in the most robust 45 degree angle. Post-printing is reduced to cut the corners off the stand.

Satellite lifetime is often limited by degradation of the electrical power subsystem--radiation-damaged solar arrays and failed batteries. Being able to beam power from terrestrial sites could alleviate this limitation, extending the lifetime of billions of dollars of satellite assets, as well as providing additional energy for electric propulsion that can be used for stationkeeping and orbital changes. In addition, laboratory research at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) has shown the...

At a glance, harnessing the power of the Arizona sun would seem to be a natural fit for an aspiring southwestern university. ASU’s increasing research capability, the ambitions of Arizona businesses and the Arab oil embargoes of the 1970’s might have been a perfect storm for the development of solar technology. But technical challenges and uncertain government support impeded strategic investment and innovation in a field that sparked the imagination but required robust interdisciplinary...

#### Solar Wind Turbine This wind turbine is a remix of the great 3D model from Ivailo (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4635423). This wind turbine is powered by solar. **Motor and solar panel:** A solar panel has a size of 65 x 48 mm (3 V DC, 0.3 W). The motor used is a miniature DC gear motor with a speed of 50 rpm (3 V DC) (variant A). Alternatively, a DC motor with a higher rotation speed (>1000 rpm, 3-12 V DC) and a different design can be used (variant B). Both variants have their...
