It is thought that Cora Lane Sherman was a pseudonym for Peggy Gaddis. The booklets were sold by door-to-door salesmen at the time of publication. It took me nearly 8 years to assemble the collections as they are nearly impossible to find. To my knowledge, there are no complete outstanding collections of these booklets available.

A Pulp-Era Mystery One of the great mysteries of the pulp era was the identity of the anonymous author of the article " A Penny A Word ," a scathing indictment of the pulp magazine industry which had appeared in the March 1936 issue of The American Mercury . The author of the article unloads on everyone : the pulp publishers, the pulp editors, the pulp authors, and even the pulp readers (whom he affectionately refers to as " morons "). At the time, some suspected H. L....

Dime novels were a format of inexpensive popular fiction produced in the United States between 1860 and 1930. Available for as little as a nickel or as much as a dime, they opened up leisure reading for the masses in a way previously not possible. Originally featuring stories about the American frontier and the West, cowboys eventually gave way to detectives, like Nick Carter, and boy adventurers and entrepreneurs, like Frank Reade Jr. This site contains materials from two major dime novel...

The Pulp Jungle is Frank Gruber's account of his days as a pulp writer, starting during the Great Depression and through to the early forties when he moved to Hollywood as a screenwriter. An early draft of the manuscript was entitled "The Hungry Years." It's now a rare book - long out-of-print and increasingly difficult to find on the second-hand market. The chapters in the PDF version have been bookmarked for ease of access.
