This was my final project for DFT-170 in which I created a model of the SR-71 BlackBird. Its a little wonky in places and parts like the pins and turbines should be scaled down a notch to fit better. This was my first big project in SolidWorks.

This is a remix of Duckobert's resized pegs (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4802472) for Dauen's re-upload of the fantastic SR-71 model (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4773714). There are two iterations - one keeps close to Duckobert's peg design, but the pegs are hollow and split, just like the well known slotted spring pins used in various technical applications. Fits like a glove (finger, actually - the plane parts are the gloves ...?) into the mid/tail section holes. The second...

Declassified(Unclassified) Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird Flight Manual for SR-71A and SR-71B variants. The SR-71(retired) was a United States Air Force high performance, high altitude Mach 3+ strategic reconnaissance aircraft. The SR-71 was in service with the US Air Force from 1966 to 1990 and the last flight of an SR-71 was by NASA in 1999. It was, and still is, the fastest jet aircraft ever deployed.

Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird cockpit. Developed as a follow up to the U-2, the SR-71 was created at the world famous Lockheed ";Skunk Works"; under the guidance of aeronutical genius Kelly Johnson. It remains the highest and fastest flying turbojet aircraft in history, operating most efficiently at 80,000 feet and at speeds in excess of Mach 3. The museums plane set numerous world records; New York to London(1 hour,54 minutes), London to Los Angeles(3hrs,47minutes), US coast to coast...

How did you become a pilot for the SR-71 Blackbird? Buz Carpenter knows. He started flying the SR-71 in 1975 after a week-long interview process that included an astronaut physical. Buz shares what it was like becoming a Blackbird pilot, how pilots used their 580-degree windows to heat up their lunches, and how the aircraft got the nickname Habu.

Stern Pinball- X-men Blackbird w/ support I wanted to add a little more character to my Stern X-men pinball machine, so I found the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird by erikgen to be a good model for me to work with. I shorten the nose and added the bottom vertical stabilizers as seen in the X-men: First Class movie. Plus, I needed to design a support bracket to mount atop of the Blackbird scoop plastic located in the pinball machine. Print notes: I did rotate the model to a 90-degree vertical position...

Launching of cryogenic propellants into earth orbit and beyond is very expensive. Each additional pound of payload delivered to low earth orbit requires approximately 35 pounds of additional weight at liftoff. There is therefore a critical need to minimize boiloff in spacecraft long term missions/systems. Various methods have been used to date, including superinsulation and thermodynamic vents to reduce boiloff. A system was designed and tested as described herein that will totally eliminate...

The utilization of Kevlar cord and thermal knives in a deployable release system produces a number of issues that must be addressed in the design of the system. This paper proposes design considerations that minimize the major issues, thermal knife failure, Kevlar cord relaxation, and the measurement of the cord tension. Design practices can minimize the potential for thermal knife laminate and element damage that result in failure of the knife. A process for in-situ inspection of the knife...

This research was to advance the understanding of diffusion mechanisms in liquid metals and alloys through accurate diffusivity measurements over a wide range of temperatures, including the proximity of the materials melting points. Specifically, it was driven towards developing a methodology (and subsequent flight hardware) to enable several diffusion coefficient measurements (i.e., at several different temperatures) to be performed using a single sample. The Liquid Metal Diffusion (LMD) was...

A straightforward procedure has been developed to quickly determine an inviscid design of a hypersonic wind tunnel nozzle when the test crash is both calorically and thermally imperfect. This real gas procedure divides the nozzle into four distinct parts: subsonic, throat to conical, conical, and turning flow regions. The design process is greatly simplified by treating the imperfect gas effects only in the source flow region. This simplification can be justified for a large class of hypersonic...
