A steelworker stands in front of an advertisement for the first night of television in Pittsburgh, Jan 11, 1949. This was known as the 'Golden Spike', uniting the east and midwest with television. A one hour live program was held at the Syria Mosque. The station was WDTV, DuMont Network, later purchased by Westinghouse and renamed KDKA in 1955.
