The author has already referred to the standardisation of the perikon detector, for the same conditions of frequency and coupling, by comparison with a thermo-element. He now makes use of this arrangement, a galvanometer of 2000 ohms' resistance and sensitiveness 1.28*10/sup -9/ amp being used with the dector. In the following table are given the received current and received energy, measured in this way for various sending stations, the measurements being made at the U.S. Naval Wireless...

This is a compact 3D-printed manual Morse key. The design offers precise movement with adjustable force and travel, in a very simple 3D-printed design. Compact and lightweight, the key is suitable for portable use. There is a choice of different knob shape options (according to parameter "knobtype" in the code). The default type is the most mature design. The key design is parametric so that dimensions can be varied to suit different tastes. It is also easy to adjust the code to...

Tissot has already pointed out the advantages of high spark-frequency when thermal detectors are employed. The author demonstrates that a high spark-frequency is also advantageous from the point of view of the telephone receiver. Rayleigh's and Wien's results are quoted as showing the rapid increase of sensitiveness with the frequency, and a curve of volt-sensitiveness is given for a pair of 800-ohm Schmidt-Wilckes head telephones of the type used for radio-telegraphic work. The change in...

Quenched Spark Gap for Wireless Telegraphy
Topics: Quenched Spark Gap, Undamped Oscillations, Wireless Telegraphy
Telegraph Age, Vol. XXIV, 1906
Topics: Telegraph -- Periodicals, Morse Code, Telephone, Telegraph, Telegraphy
The relation between the energy of oscillation in two coupled circuits and the coefficient of coupling is investigated. The primary aircraft is excited by means of a vibrator worked by an electromagnet, and this circuit excites the two coupled circuits under observation. The arrangement is taken as representing a sender and a receiving circuit with a detector circuit coupled to it. It is the energy relations in the last two which are studied. A Pt-Te thermo-couple or a zincite-chalcopyrite...

This paper refers to experiments carried out daring 1909-1910 between the Fesscnden high-power station at Brant Hock and the U.S. cruisers /b Birmingham/ and /b Salem/. A series of experiments enabled data to be obtained as to the laws governing the radiation and reception of electric waves, and the subject of atmospheric absorption up to a distance of 1000 miles to be studied. At Brant Rock 50 to 60 kw. were employed, the two ships' stations being equipped with 10-kw. 500-~ motor-generators. A...

Alfred Vail made this key in 1844, believed to be from the first Baltimore-Washington telegraph line, as an improvement on Samuel Morse's original transmitter. My model is based on a 3D scan of the original key from the Smithsonian 3D Digitization web site. It can be seen and downloaded here : https://3d.si.edu/object/3d/morse-vail-telegraph-key:ed99f44d-3c60-4111-b666-e2908e1b64ef The only parts of the model that are not 3D printed are (2) 5mm x 20 bolts and nuts for the upper adjustment...

The experiments were made with a buzzer as transmitter, capable of giving wave-lengths from 350 m to over 2000 m. The chalcopyrite-zincite (perikon) detector was used as a standard for comparison, measurements showing that the deflections obtained with this detector are proportional to the squares of the oscillatory currents as measured by thermo-element. For the comparison of detectors of other types with the perikon, the shunted telephone method and the variable coupling method were used....

This design is for two different versions of 3D-printed iambic paddles for sending Morse code. The design is simple, but provides precise movement with adjustable force and travel. Design features include printed rocker hinges, force adjustment by a sliding spring, travel adjustment using a modified screw, ergonomic grip and general simplicity and precision. The design is compact and well suited for portable use. The design can be tuned or modified by changing the OpenSCAD code, for example to...

This thing is a 3D-printed lightweight Morse code straight key suitable for portable (QRP) amateur radio operation. It uses 5mm diameter a 2mm thick neodymium magnets for spring force. To build this thing you will need to purchase one 3.5mm stereo jack**, four M3x10mm screws and two m3x18mm screws. This project requires wiring and soldering to connect key to the stereo jack. Refer to the provided wiring diagram. ** Note: stereo jacks come in all shapes and sizes. The stereo jack used here has a...
